Lump on the right side of my neck

Hello I've had a lump on the right side of my neck for several weeks now after getting tonsillitis and isn't going after antibiotics. It doesn't hurt to touch the hurts when I move it, as it's in my neck can't tell if it's a solid a rubbery lump, it moves around when I press on it, trying to get into the doctors but struggling to can anyone help me please as I'm very worried.

  • It's probably a swollen lymph node as these can take a few weeks to go down after infection/tonsilitis

  • I had tonsillitis 2 weeks before lockdown which is 6 weeks now and the lump did go down but has re appeared again and I don't feel unwell in any way which concerns me

  • I've had similar, my lymph nodes have been swollen for 3 months now. Like you I've been very worried (especially as I've had no infections). Dr has said that the nodes can reappear as a reaction to body still fighting any remaining infection. I've had ultrasound and other investigations with no results. But to put your mind at rest (from my research and what Drs have told me) especially if you've recently had tonsilitis it can take a few months for them to go down completely and they can reappear. Certainly go to the doctor when you are able, just to be sure but try not to worry until then, usually if it is something sinister I've been told it would be accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, vomiting, unexplained weight loss or other things. For me personally I have extreme fatigue for no reason, no other symptoms except pain in the neck, so I am going to ENT to rule out anything. If your doctor is concerned they will send you to ENT or ultrasound. Hopefully you will get an appointment soon.

  • Thank you so much my mind is a little eased going to try the doctors in the morning again and even for a nurse or doctor to feel it would massively ease my mind. I hope everything goes well with your ENT.

  • Thank you. I'm sure you'll be far more relaxed once you have spoken to them. All the best.

  • Thank you so much, I'll re post once I have seen a doctor, all the best to you too, take care.
