Should I be worried? HPV positive and severe dyskaryosis

My smear results came through yesterday (monday) with the letter dated Friday, today I received my covid screening appointment and appointment. It's for 7th December, a very quick turnaround indeed. I know the letter says nearly all people don't have cancer but I am freaking out, I've recently had a baby so it could be the hormones too. The results were hpv positive and sever e dyskaryosis.

  • Hi. I was diagnosed hpv positive and severe/moderate dyskaryosis  high grade cell change last year. My colposcopy shown cin3. It was a large area that had cell change and they done loop excision to remove cells while I was under anaesthetic. I had this done in Feb 2020. This might not be the case for you. Yours could be less severe. The colposcopy teams are lovely and if they are not worried then you don't need to be. I know it's very hard. I send my self in tk panics and think i have every cancer going causing my symptoms i am getting. I never had any changes in my periods really but since having cell removal I have had spotting between periods. I have only just been able to have my follow up of cure that I should have had in August due to bleeding throughout. Had this done 2 days ago and should receive my results in 4 weeks. My Dr and the gynaecologist also think my bleeding is hormonal.

  • Hi Sophie,

I can't give you medical advice but I think what you describe is quite common nowadays. The important thing is that you are getting your smear test and following up on whatever course of action the doctors give you. Try not to worry too much and take it one day, one appointment at a time.

Good luck and come back and tell us how you do.

    Laura xx
