Sore throat 2 months

Hello folks 28y Male here, maybe anyone of you had similar symptoms or will be able to give advice. Basically I have constantly burning sensation on the left side of throat for 2 months already, tried omeprazole, paracetamol, ibuprofen, salty water gargles, nothing seems helping. Weirdest part it's not painfull to swallow, hot/warm drinks seems easing sensation for a little bit. So I contacted GP about that, they sent me straight to MRI, I was actually worrying about that, but MRI appeared to be clear (so seems nothing serious right?) at the same day ENT doctor had a look with endoscope through the nose, didn't find anything either(I was taking pictures myself of the throat, and for me my left side looks enlarged compared to other one) After doctor said try Difflam Spray and throat syrop for heartburn and acid things, I'm trying them now, but no results so far, don't know what to do, probably If will ask my GP about something again, they will laugh at me. Never smoked cigarettes in my life, but was smoking Shisha(waterpipe) time to time. Anyone maybe have suggestions what this may be? Or what I can do? Thanks

  • Hi I'm 35 I have had the same sensation for months now feels like a lump in my throat and I've had omeprazole and lansoprazole for it. The gp said to me it could be globus sensation where acid goes up to your voice box so I'm taking omeprazole for 2 months if not will need a camera but like I said I'm been suvering with this for a few months now and regular headaches at back of head with the odd chest pain. Probably due to the acid reflux. Do you eat a lot of spicy or hot food that could cause the acid reflux and throat irritation as I think that is what mine is but with the covid going on can't get seen and the doctor did tell me how don't like looking down patients throats at the moment.

  • Hello, thank for reply. Emm I'm not s big fan of spicy food, but I love hot food. Does the omeprazole easing sensation for you? And yes, covid19 affected everything so bad, crazy queues everywhere.

  • Hi, I'm 30y Female, non-smoker. Had 2 negative Covid tests in 2 months through participation in studies.

I've had very similar symptoms for over 2 months so I'm going to follow this thread. I hope you are feeling better, did you get any answers from the doctors or find anything to help?

For me the left side of my neck is slightly swollen. My throat hurts all the time but it's not sore to swallow like a throat infection normally is. The pain is just like an ache or burning or like there's an inflated balloon in there making it hurt (I know that sounds weird but it's hard to describe the pain). I can feel the burning in my chest and ear as well. Sometimes it pinches when I swallow as if there is something stuck but I know there isn't.

I've seen an ENT and he looked with a camera and didn't see anything. He said it was probably something viral. But it had been 2 months at that point, now 2.5 months and it's no better. I have no runny/blocked nose, no cough, no fever just throat pain and fatigue. Talking makes it worse so it's affecting my work.

Nothing has helped to ease it. I've tried difflam, salt water, honey & lemon, apple cider vinegar, strepsils, paracetamol, ibuprofen, boosting vitamin c & d, vix rub, a humidifier. It's just constant. Drinking hot drinks feels soothing but doesn't actually help, I think it just distracts.

I don't know whether to go back to my GP about this when the ENT said it was probably viral but it just doesn't feel viral and 2 weeks later I'm the same.

  • I can suggest you to have a look what are you eating, as I have a good example now. I removed from my diet, all fried/fatty/spicy/coffe/ , try to eat more fiber and green stuff like salads and + I was taking Gaviscon double action (Heartburn/indigestion) after 2-3 weeks this sensation was barely noticeable, and 1 week I decided to take a brake of my diet,  and sensation came back very quickly. So it's seems very weird type of silent reflux or whatever it is. So try to do that, be patient maybe for to ease symptoms will take longer or quicker and main thing set your mind that it will help too.

  • How are you feeling? Any improvement and have any of you been offered omeprazole?

  • Hi,

Hope you're okay. I am currently going through similar to what you did, I just wanted to know. Did you get better? Also, did you find out what the problem was?

I have been for an ENT appointment, doctor said there was a lot of acid irritating my throat, however, I have been taking Omeprazole for about 2 weeks now, I am on them for 2 months. My throat still hurts but I think its because the acid has damaged my esaphogas. It is really annoying and effects me in my day to day tasks. I struggle to get a moments peace, I really hope it gets better, I just want to feel normal again.

The doctor also sent me for a CT scan which I'm guessing came back clear, otherwise they would have contacted me by now. I've also got a chest x-ray today so hope that goes well. I've been experiencing these problems over 3 months now and I've had enough. I wish you well and hope you got better.

    Take care.

  • Hi, Just wondering if you ever found out what your problem was or if you finally got relief. I have been having same symptoms since January 2022. I have had camera up nose down throat, ct scan, ultrasound of neck. Nothing has come up. Been on omeprazole for 6 week and no change whatsoever.. in fact could be a little worse. My symptoms, feel like lump in throat when swallow saliva. Sometimes it feels sharp or prickly, sometimes feels like a hairball or pill i can't cough up or swallow down. Also have a minty menthol sensation in throat when i breathe in. Also a burning sensation on left side of tongue. Lately my throat on left side feels like a nagging burning raw feeling too. all symptoms on the left side only. Don't feel it when I lay down to sleep and no problems eating or swallowing food. I life you have had enough! I have another ent appt scheduled for early june but the wait is maddening and i have suffered so much anxiety feeling like something sinister is being missed.  Hope to hear from you and hope you are doing well.
