Confused and Scared guy

I first felt a lump in my right 'breast' 9 months ago but what with covid etc and being ignorant to guys and breast cancer etc I put off getting it checked out today I went to doctors as the lump has grown and my breast is misshapen and there's a dragging sensation in it. 1 hard lump pea size behind nipple and then a softer lump which is quite big about 50mm in length and 20 mm wide. Doctor has said it doesn't feel right and has referred me to a breast clinic as an urgent referral. I'm scared about going to a breast clinic where I will probably be only guy there etc in a very female environment and not knowing what to expect. Any advice please and also if any guys been through this or currently going through it please can you offer any advise and support.

  • Hi there ..

And welcome to our little chat room ...

I had my breast cancer diagnosed in 2017 ... and shortly after my untie ... we both had a grade 3 ... then last year her son, my cousin was diagnosed with the same ... yea I know he felt like you .. and was put on the male ward for his op .. which he said had draw backs as they knew little about breast cancer care on there .. so looking back thinks he would have done better on the female breast ward but maybe in a side room ...

I think he found it harder to tell family because there is a stigma about how few men have it ... it would help if there was more care and help for men that find them selfs here ... but you know all 3 of us are doing o.k .. and still here ... so I'd say, trust that you can speak more about how you feel .. know in doing that other males that get breast cancer will benifit from your expierance and how it made you feel ...

We need more like you to come forward and not be afraid to say we all get breast cancer .. men and women ...

So know you can always come on here and say how you really feel ... even a little blog about your journey... and in admitting the highs and lows .. yea there are highs if you look for them ... you'll be helping more people then you know ..

Any questions you have , I can ask him ... hold on in there ... go with emotions ... get a vertual pair of boxing gloves on ... and climb in the ring ... wer all there with you ... trying to kick it's butt.... Chrissie x

  • Many many thanks for you response and I'm glad all of you are on the mend yeah the stigma is awful in a very female dominated world when it comes to breast cancer and in my case I'm more worried and scared about the stigma etc of this rather than if I do actually have cancer as I'm a stubborn fighter and will face it head on if I do have it.

  • Your welcome ...

One thing I forgot to mention was 8.5 out of 10 lumps are benign... I had 4 call backs from mamorgrams over the years were fine...and some were really big and hard and didn't move ... others smaller and movable ... I didn't take in your whole thread ... I thought you had been diagnosed ...

So try to keep busy ... and fingers crossed for a good result ... let us know how it goes ... Chrissie...
