I’m so scared

Hi I'm 43 & absolutely scared stiff......  about 4months ago my bowel movements changed, I now have diarrhoea all the time 5/6 times a day, never felt like I was finished, tummy pains, knackered all the time noticed abit of blood .... because of Covid i put of going to doctors, well 3 weeks ago I went & they done bloods, I have only got around to doing the poo sample & scrap this Tuesday..... well today doctors called..... it's not celiacs (which I thought it might be) lots of blood in poo samples & now awaiting hospital appointment in next 2weeks for a colonoscopy....... I don't even know why I'm writing in here...... I'm petrified as doctor has said worse case bowel cancer......

  • Try not to worry, I know easier said than done. But remember your symptoms can be caused by various other things, like proctitis, colitis, ibs, crohns. Nevertheless glad they have given you a colonoscopy appointment soon.

  • Hi doctor already ruled out ibs & it's not proctitis(symptoms not the same) but thanks I'll just be glad when I can get the colonoscopy done

  • Hi it is scary had my ct scan yesterday been through all your going through had diarrhoea for over a year the first stool sample was diagnosed as h pylori infection which cleared after 2 weeks with meds had to do two more samples including the stick one  which they call the  fit test that came back abnormal not for blood in the stool but high calypropectin levels think the normal is 50 mine was 133 which indicates some sort of immflamation down the gastric tract  went for  the colonoscopy which couldn't be completed as he couldnt navigate the scope around the splenic flexture (corner of your colon ) hence the ct scan yesterday any thing I can help with questions etc please ask hope all goes well for you .

  • Hi yes they done the stick one all doctor said on the phone was it's got a lot of blood in it & wants the hospital to do a colonoscopy within 2 weeks...... how your ct scan went ok ......my brain is really mushed at the moment but no doubt I'll have more questions thank you

  • No probs the ct scan was fine the colonoscopy not so good if your having that done definately go for the sedative if you can I opted for gas an air big mistake for me but everyones different but I'm sure you will be fine it's the waiting for the results that's messes with your head and the not knowing can't understand why it takes two weeks for  ct scan results just seems along time hope all goes  well for you keep me posted

  • Morning.

I guess you are writing here because you are scared and that is a really normal reaction.

The good thing is you are being seen quite quickly and the colonoscopy is a positive step.  Many people have different experiences with this test, not sure if you have had before but I had one in September after a long wait due to covid and would have done again without any hesitation.  It was essential for me and I guess the same for you.

I am sure you are massively overwhelmed by what is going on but try and remain positive.  You might even get results at the hospital appointment, I did.

Try not to fret and I wish you well.

Keep using this site to seek comfort if it helps you.

    Best wishes.
