No tonsils little lump on left side and swollen lympth nodes

Hello

I got referred through just dentist after going to see her the other day. under my tongue I had little spots which she thought was through mucas but said she'd get a second opinion as I had swollen lymph nodes behind the ear. In the last day or two I've also noticed I have a lump on the left side where my tonsils would be but I have no tonsils so pretty scared about the lump it's only small by clearly noticeable compared to the other side which is flat. I have a post natal drip which has been constant but much worse since havingcoronavirus 8 weeks ago.. and my throat has final started to get sore from constant coughing. Really worried about the lump in my throat as I don't have tonsils and now is hurting due to coughing a lot. Not sure when I'm meant to revive my letter for mu referall but it's been 8 days now so getting nervous.

  • please dont worry it is very very early days yet and there could be a host of other reasons that I am sure it could be.excessive coughing can play havoc with your throat and has possibly aggravated it.We always fear the worst I know because I have been there too.Years ago now I had a  throat infection right at the back and when I went to my GP he said I had a chronic sore throat and gave me a course of antibiotics but after a few weeks it hadn't gone away and by this stage I was scared to death as I had started coughing blood and I just knew I had cancer of the throat so I returned to my GP and told him I think it was cancer. He insisted I hadn't but told me he would refer me to an Ear nose and throat specialist and like you I had to wait.Three weeks later I was sat in the specialist's clinic at my local hospital and he asked me to stick out my tongue,he wrapped a piece of what looked like Muslim around my tongue and pulled down on it quite hard but not painful and looked down at my throat with the aid of his spotlight on his head. After a minute or so he said I had nothing bad like cancer but in fact pharangytis an infection of the pharynx which lies just above the roof of your throat at the back of your throat. He suggested I had minor surgery on my nasal passage so I could breathe through my nose properly.Apparently I had been sleeping through the night breathing through my mouth only and had picked up the aggravated infection that way.I had the operation a couple of weeks later under anaesthetic and had overnight stay in hospital.Over the next few weeks it totally healed and all was well again and I was certain I had cancer!Sorry for going on but honestly cancer is the last thing you should worry about as 9 times out of ten it isn't.I hope this helps to put your mind at rest.God Bless you.
