37yrs old and found a superficial breast mass

Dear all forum readers and anxious patients,

I am 37 years old and I found a superficial lump in my breast 3 days after handing in my notice for a job I have had and loved for 15 years!!

I was added to the 2 week fast track referral program and sent for a mammogram on Friday 13th November. On the mammogram they found a second probably incidental area of suspicion so I then had an ultrasound guided core biopsy of both masses. I have my results appointment tomorrow. My purpose for posting is to try to address some of the fears many people in my position may have! I was advised that following any diagnostics each patient is reviewed in a multidisciplinary team meeting to decide any intervention that is necessary and patients are addressed and discussed as determined by the urgency in which their interventions need to be employed! So basically no news is generally an indication of good news! I'm lucky I work in veterinary medicine and I have a good understanding of procedural time-frames and know that these are merely an industry standard and in place to ensure patient expectations are met! I am consequently confident that if any diagnostics determined as patient had neoplasia (cancer) it would be addressed swiftly and contact would be made as soon as the diagnosis was confirmed and the delivery of this information and the delivery of any necessary treatment would subsequently be initiated as soon as possible! Trust me when a healthcare professional receives bad news about a patient they make it their priority to do everything within their power to achieve a positive outcome!! So there is no doubt in my mind that any of us would ever be left two weeks post biopsy without contact to then receive bad news! High priority cases are dealt with swiftly and efficiently, those of us who are lucky enough to have none neoplastic masses are deemed ok to wait for our two week post procedure appointments!!

I hope this helps some people who are like me waiting for their biopsy results! Don't panic or stress until someone gives you a reason to!
