Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Same here!

It's a long time since my first jab on 19th March! Certainly the node on the vaccination side is the same as before. It did seem bigger after the second jab, and so it might have reverted to its previous size...not quite sure, and mostly trying to be patient. I need to go back to weekly checking, as it is now more like daily.

    xx

  • How's the one on the other side, mine still the same it was never as big as the vaccine side

I went for the nhs scan as the private one doesn't send results to the gp and she said she couldn't see anything on the vaccine side and wouldn't scan the other side

  • I had the AZ vaccine 4 weeks ago today and only just noticed a lump in my collarbone, I remembered seeing this post a few days ago, so thought I would come and give it a read and it has been really good to hear all that has been said and the mainly positive results for people although some still waiting.

I did just want to add something about a swollen lymph node I have had for years in my neck - It happened about 12 years ago when I was having lots of viruses and illnesses, within the space of just a few months I just went from one virus to the next and my immune system took a real beating and the lymph node just never went down after that, it has been fully checked out and nothing to worry about just something I live with. Most of the time I am aware that it is there and can cause a bit of pain, but you just get used to it, but when I am ill then it does become even larger and more painful as of course it is reacting to an illness, I used to poke and prod it a lot but all these years on it's just part of the furniture.

I wouldn't say it was natural for a lymph node to stay up that long, I've never really looked into it. I just think that everyone is so different and our bodies react so differently to things.

I noticed also that some people were saying that certain vitamins were low, I end up being giving folic acid on a 3 month prescription at least once a year and get the B12 injection every 3 months and have been prescribed Vit D for years now, I wonder how much of a link there is to these vitamin deficiencies to how well we recover from illnesses as I know I take a long time.

I really hope that there are no bad news hits from the people here that have reported these symptoms.

  • Hello Kay-D

It's funny that you talk about the B12 injection. I am also on an injection every 3 months and I had my injection yesterday and I feel like it has changed overnight and my lymph node has got smaller. I've had it for 5 weeks!

    Thanks

    Nat

  • Hi [@Natalie1612]‍

That's great to hear, really good to hear that it is getting smaller and hopefully you will feel the benefit from your B12 injection - it is not something I look forward to having it is so piggin painful going in!

  • Just found the one on the other side, after thinking it might actually have gone. Still there, but small.

  • I have found similar six days after my vaccine and have spent much of the last 24 hours crying in fear of what this could be. I spoke with NHS 24 last night as I was so anxious they told me to get the chemist to check it out who in turn has told me I need to see the GP. I have a phone call with them later. Reading this thread has helped me relax a little and hopefully it will be the same result as yours.

  • Just a quick update.

8 weeks post vaccine & I still have the lump. Just had US & they not concerned. 1cm by 0.5cm node but just a normal chronic enlarged node. Radiologist said might even be permanent. Literally 5 mins then was out.

So please all take reassurance. Even if yours hang about, try not to stress. Give it a while & raise it with GP but don't take Google word for anything.

  • Hi Everyone

i have had exactly the same, noticed my slump on collarbone about 1 week after my first Covid vaccine back in January.

Have been assessed by ultrasound as reactive lymph node. It enlarged and became painful after second jab in March, and is still there.

I too find it worrying but it helps to red that so many others are experiencing the same,

I have read that some lymph nodes never shrink back, so have resigned myself to living with it, although I do still stress about it sometimes.

I too get aches and pain in the collarbone area,

  • Hello everyone,

I thought I would do an update because I think this thread has been very helpful to many people. I last posted on the 13th May. My raised left subclavicular lymph node diminished in size but never totally disappeared. So, my GP arranged an ultrasound which I had on June 11th, about 10 weeks after I had my first AstraZeneca Vaccine in my left arm. The ultrasound showed that the lymph node was somewhat agitated and is around 6mm in size but I was told that this is very likely due to the vaccine and only if it was over 10mm would they do further investigations. All the lymph nodes were checked in my neck and appeared normal. I was told that the lump may never disappear completely now.  Once a lymph node becomes enlarged, some can stay slightly raised and palpable (its's important to get them checked though). Also, the ultrasound person said he had seen a few of these cases now since vaccination. He advised me to visit the GP again if it starts to get bigger but at this point he is unconcerned. I have now had the second vaccination on the 18th June but in my right arm. So far, everything is normal on the right side of neck. My left side is still the same. I am much more relaxed about it now. I hope this information helps.
