Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi,

I had my jab in Feb 21, then in the April the GP found a deep lymph node enlarged in my armpit. I had gone in for something else, so it was sort of found by accident, it was that deep in my armpit I doubt I would ever have found it.

But two years on it's still there, as big as ever! it really plays on my anxiety as it's hard to feel being so embedded in my armpit so I keep wondering if it's grown, however I have had it scanned several times over the last two years as I have a history of cancer & they always say it looks normal. I can't tell you how much worry its caused me and still does really, so your not alone.

I too have been told it's not necessarily the size that matters (it feels huge to me!) but how it looks on ultrasound, the shape etc is what matters.

I was only thinking the other day I wonder if many other people still have them enlarged so long after the jab? Some people may have them and not even know, I'd doubt I'd have found this without the doctor finding it!).

Hope you can find some peace, it's awful being in a constant state of panic.

  • Thankyou for replying! Although its not nice you also have an enlarged lymph node its nice to know im not the only one and reassures me it may be 'normal' it definitely wasn't there before the covid jab so i guess its just one of them things ‍♀️ the area is swollen around it last few days but i do think im still stressed from my hospital stay and bew diagnosis and my shoulder and neck are hurting from sleeping funny so maybe this has caused it to swell.

Health anxiety is such a b**ch and be so debilitating!

  • Thankyou for your tips on distraction they are very useful, i have been looking into pilates funnily enough as meant to be good for mindfulness too and I could do with that as my health anxiety is really high at the moment! Also looking into therapy for it.

Sorry to hear your had to go through chemo i hope you're doing much better now!

Enjoy your new puppy, i found the puppy stage so hard but so fun and rewarding too!!

  • Hi....I'm just wondering if there are people out thete who are still reacting to Covid jabs? I had breast cancer treatment 3 years ago. I had my flu and Covid jab in my right arm and a couple of days later, noticed a hard swelling on the right side of my clavicle. Just right of 'adams apple.'. I was seen at the breast clinic today who couldn't really tell me anything. I will be booked in for a chest xray and bone scan asap but it might take 6 weeks. My annual mammogram is next week. I am interested what otjers think. Xx
