Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Really glad I found this chat. I seem to be the same as everyone else. About a week after getting my second dose (Pfizer), I've just discovered a lump about 1inch on my shoulder up from my armpit on the same arm as I got my injection. I don't recall this was on the list of common side effects, but it seems quite common among everyone on this site. Fingers crossed for us all. Stay positive guys :)

  • Hi

I had a lump on my collarbone under arm and nipple...checked me at breast clinic they weren't worried about any but as a safety measure they took needle biopsy of nipple,  unfortunately...8 months later I had an opp to remove lump in areola...2 week later I have been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma...I am going Tuesday for ultrasound and mammogram and going to ask them to check that lump on collarbone and underarm again...don't want anything missed xx ur very young...it could be a fatty lump xx try not to worry...but insist on them double checking...don't get forgotten about like I did xx best of luck xxx

  • Glad I found this. Had flu jab Saturday found a lump on right clavicle Sunday. About 1cm smooth and moves around.  Been to the GP today Monday and they are sending me for an ultrasound as it isn't a listed side effect and it feels solid. Also no other lymphnodes swollen.

I am anxious as hell. My dad had throat cancer and it was found because of a swollen lymphnode on his face.

This has reassured me it might just be the jab

  • Update doctor did a referral for an ultrasound which I am waiting on. I've developed a second lump Overnight and coughed up pink flem this morning. I called the docs to let them know but my GP is off today. I am officially freaking out.

  • Thought I'd post an update too. So it's six months since I discovered my lump on the collar bone. I've had bloods and an ultrasound and all seemed fine, but it's still there. I'm back this week for a review to see if I can push for further tests as six months is making me very anxious!

  • It's not just you. Mine is still up after 6 months. I was told when I had my ultrasound that the swollen lymph nodes might last up to a year....

Hope that  reassures you a bit,

    R

  • Hi All,

I've been following this post for a while as I had a similar issue following my 2nd covid jab back in June. Had a large (visible) lymph node come up with a slightly smaller one underneath on side of my neck. After nearly 3 months the large one has gone down completely, however today the smaller one is inflamed so I'm back to worrying again! Will keep an eye on it for a couple of weeks and then see the GP.

Also to note, I had the same 3 years ago with a huge lymph node on other side of neck. Grew to golfball size in 4 months when I finally went to the doc. Fast track referral, biopsies and lots of anxiety but it all came back clear and I eventually got a diagnosis of Lupus (immune disorder) with one of the symptoms being lymphadenopathy. So not always the big c! I'm always having random nodes popping up for no apparent reason now, but doesn't stop the worry!

  • Oh that does reassure me thank you. I know everyone and every case is different, but this thread has been a reassurance. It's making me hesitant to have a booster jab whilst this is still up if it's been from the vaccine though, as I had mine in February and March 3 weeks apart, due to working in the vaccination centre. So I reckon they have likely worn off somewhat now... but the node is still up. I'm not even sure the next steps with the doctors but I'm there tomorrow to see what they say so will update. Thanks for replying, that's very helpful!

  • Hi,

Just to say I had my first jab in early Feb, doctor discovered 2 enlarged nodes under arm in April and mine still haven’t returned to normal either!

  • Thank you, that is also reassuring. It took me about 5 times mentioning the vaccine to the doctor before he admitted it might be linked. I felt fine about it till a friend was diagnosed with cancer this year and it made my anxiety fly up again!
