Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Sorry for the delayed update, Had ultrasound yesterday had a good check around neck and collarbones and gave the all clear he said slightly up but not looking sinister. He did say I was his six this week for the same thing.

    There is hope

  • Hi me again, did any of you have blood tests to check for the Epstein Barr virus. Mine has come back showing positive for previous infection

  • Seem to have found a swollen lymph node behind one knee now! Worry and panic mode are back, especially as I've been having night sweats. We are going away for the weekend to see our children and I think there's nothing I can do about this until Monday.... And what if it is secondary cancer? Why do these worrrying things always happen at weekends?

Previous worry and panic modes have resulted in reassurance, but don't like the roller coaster.

  • Hi,

I know what you mean about things always happening at weekends, I know it’s easily said (& I’m terrible for worrying) but try not to worry too much until you’ve had it checked, I had cancer in my lymph nodes & im always getting told by my consultant lymph nodes can come up for all sorts of reasons.

Dont know whether it’s jab related but since I had my first jab and have felt the enlarged nodes under my arm (which are still enlarged since I felt them in April but had the jab in Feb!) I just feel the nodes behind my knees are slightly more palpable, I have wondered if it causes more of an inflammation response in some people.

Hope you get it sorted xx

  • I do hope you managed to have a relaxing weekend and enjoyed seeing your children.. I can sympathise with you entirely  - I chose not to have chemo when I had breast cancer and after 7 years still wonder if it was a wise decision! I am already dreading my next mammogram due next year - it will be the first after 3 years and I always make the assumption that they are going to find a recurrence or new cancer and develop a phobia of the post until I get the results. I suppose that is something we just have to live with!! My lymph node is still the same size (since 1st dose in February) but I do manage to forget about it sometimes I do hope your gp reassures you - let us know how you get on.

  • Good afternoon all

A bit of background to my story (it is in this thread but I know lots have commented and not expecting anyone to remember me!)

On 25 April I had my first AZ vaccine, a few days later I noticed a raised collarbone lymph node (at the time I didnt know it was a node), reluctantly the GP saw me and said it wouldnt be the vaccine so panic stations set in! anyway I had a scan and he saw that lymph node on the scan, that was 4mm and 7mm one in my neck on the same side as where I had my vaccine.  The sonographer said there was nothing to worry about and that was that... roll on a few days after that scan in June, I received a letter from the GP asking me to make contact about my results.

The GP said that the vaccine wouldnt cause this to my nodes and that I needed a follow up in 6 weeks, that was today and I have just come back.  The collarbone lymph node is no longer raised, I still have the 7mm one in my neck but it looks normal and is in normal limits and could be from previous illness and will never go.  The sonographer said it was nothing to worry about and especially that nothing had changed in 6 weeks.  He also checked my thyroid.

He did say that GPs are so out of touch with the vaccines and what they can cause as they have people all day every day getting scanned for these reasons and the GPs will not say it is the vaccine.

So, all in all, I am happy and relieved, not sure why I have a node of 7mm but it could just be the way it is and I need to not worry.

I also want to add that I had a blood test too to check white blood cells etc and they all came back normal.

  • Hi everyone

    Hello guys

I have had my pfizer vax 1st shot about 10 days ago, I noticed a lump on my left collar bone on the second day after the jab. I am only 22 yo, no family history. I am concerned, my gp ordered some blood tests and referred me to a hematologist. Logically, I am not worried, but emotionally I am, my family can't take another bad news... tough times, hoping for the best.

anyone got rid of the lumps ? Any happy updates ?

I wish you all are well and safe

  • Hi.

I have now had my second Astra Zeneca injection. I chose to have it in my right arm this time. I have developed a lump on my right hand side, above my collarbone, exactly the same as my left!  I feel that is too much of a coincidence to be anything other than the vaccine. I am not going to worry anymore. I feel I have had 3 months of anxiety about the first lump and now I am just going to try and forget about it. Hope you all stay safe and well. Love and the brightest blessings xxxxxx

  • Hello

I have my second AZ vaccine in a couple of hours, I am also going to have it on the other arm and see what develops. The guy who did my scan said GPs are out of touch with what the vaccine does and said they have had so many people through the door with this and coincidental to the vaccine.

I really do think that more should be said about this potential side effect, it is widely spoken about in the US I think? From conversations I have had about it with US folks.

I have had 12 weeks of anxiety about it, but always good to get any lump checked. I will report back if I get another node having a party on my collarbone xxx

  • Don't know what I would of done without this thread the last few months. I'm now about to go in for my ENT Appt fingers crossed!
