Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi,

Tagging onto this coversation, almost releived to hear other people going through the same thing.

I had my covid vaccine (nhs radiographer) but a week or so after I found a small lump above my collarbone, it wss painless and I only found it because I poke around alot (the job makes me worry more than it should). Anyway i spoke to my gp and she called me in and had a feel and did a full blood count, testing inflammatory markers and all sorts. I even asked a consultant I work with to check it. ANYWAY  All came back perfectly normal, which is supposed to be a releif but its still there and getting alot of random bursts of  pain in my neck and collarbone.

The dreaded C word wont leave my brain, the doctor is worried at all. Is it normal for to have lumps? Has anyone had lumps that havent turned out to be ahnormal.

I work in cancer care so I know lumps and bumps arent normal...

Thank you to anyone who reads this.

    Xxx

  • How did you get on at your ultra sound.

    hope you are ok

  • Hello

I had my first ultrasound on 24 May. They said all was ok, collarbone node was 4mm and there was one in my neck 7mm. They still said all was fine. I literally skipped out the room then a few days later received a letter from my GP asking me to call them about my results which I did and basically they said all was fine but they want to do a follow up, just for completeness.

I just can't understand why they said all was fine but then get a call back, I should feel grateful which I am but wish they would have said oh by the way see you in 6 weeks.

I have also had a blood test that was absolutely fine and GP said all goes hand in hand, if my white blood cells were through the roof then more investigations were needed.

I have my next scan on 5 July so fingers crossed xx

  • I hope your scan on the 5th is all ok.

I had an examination by an oncologist  who said in her experience my lump is nothing to worry about and she would review again in October. I have since had a letter from the same hospital with my ultrasound appointment for 30th and a follow up appointment for 8th July. I called them to question why I am being seen so quickly and they just said that they had space so have bumped me up the queue. It definitely worries you when your consultation seems to contradict your correspondence xxx

  • Hello,

It is really stressful isn't it. I feel like starting a campaign as a support group as I have had a lot of people from UK and USA message me about it panicking.

If it is vaccine related and there was enough said about it, I would not be worrying as I am now.

Ah you saw an oncologist? Xx

  • I think so. Or it might have been a Haematologist. I was sent to the oncology and haematology ward at the hospital. I felt such a fraud as there were some very ill people waiting to be seen xxx

  • So I've had my lump since after my 2nd Pfizer vaccine 30th April, had bloods and all fine. My GP has called this morning and is referring me to the hospital to have it looked at on the 2 week referral pathway. He said from what he's seen he thinks vaccine related but as still there it needs looking at to be sure. I'm so worried again now!

  • Hello,

please do not stress (although I understand it is hard). I really do not know why there isn't more said about this side effect (when vaccine related) as it is causing so much unnecessary stress.

When vaccine related we need to really report on the yellow card scheme.

I had my vaccine on 25th April and still have it slightly there and getting another scan done on 5 July.

    Sending best wishes x

  • Hey all

Had my ultrasound today. Dr said all looks ok. Results on 8th July but definitely feeling less worried xxxx

  • Great stuff!

Did they make any comments about the frequency of which they are seeing other people with this and also about how long you should expect it to be gone by... if ever?

  • Hi

He did not mention any increase in the amount of people they have seen but did say if he had been my GP he would not have referred me!

    xx
