Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • That's interesting. I was actually planning to have mine on the other side to see if another lump develops there as well. That would actually put my mind at rest and tell me that it's most likely related to the vaccine. But there are other reasons for wanting it in the other arm this time around ... mainly to do with sleep comfort.

  • Hello

I have previously commented on this thread too. I am thinking of having my next vaccine in the other arm too.

A summary of my story - Had vaccine 1 on 25 April. Noticed the lump above my collarbone a few days after. Panic stations set in so called the GP, it was a mission to see them! Anyway he said he wasn't concerned and sent me for an ultrasound, had that and have a follow up in a couple of weeks. In the meantime the GP suggested I had a blood test as if it was anything to be of concern something would show (white blood cells through the roof etc) had that and it has come back fine so just waiting on the 2nd vaccine.

I really wish there was more awareness as we can't all be wrong and it is too coincidental. I posted something on Twitter and have had so many people reach out to me.

  • I don't fancy one on both sides lol.

I think I'm gonna do the same side.

If there is a doc at the vaccination clinic I might see what they suggest.

  • Found this thread while googling (as you do) symptoms after the vaccine. Only thing is I seem to recall having what I guess could be an enlarged lymph node for quite some time, genuinely couldn't say if it was years or months. I wasn't worried as I felt fine.

Anyway after the vaccine I found two lumps, one of which definitely there before and another I'm not so sure about, one was on my clavicle and the other about an inch above on my neck. Definitely felt bigger after the vaccine, but I think have since went down and at the moment I'd say around pea sized. Both quite moveable and spherical I'd say.

Girlfriend said I should go to the GP so I did and the doctor thought it was worth investigating, so at the moment waiting on blood test results and potentially a referral for an ultra sound. I guess I'm kind of sceptical of what a blood test would show and if they say I don't need an ultra sound, should I rely on that?

If anyone else has experienced anything similar would be interested to hear.

  • Hello

I have had both ultrasound and bloods, I have a follow up scan in just over a week.

my GP said a blood test and ultrasound would go hand in hand to make sure it wasn't anything serious. He said that if it was anything that needed urgent assistance there would be counts that would be sky high like the white blood count.

Ultrasound was normal but they are doing a follow up to make sure. I guess the bloods are another test to back up that all was OK.

  • Ah thanks Natalie, never realised blood tests would actually show anything in this case.

That's reassuring that the first scan was ok and you have a follow up. I'll post my own outcome whenever results are in.

  • I had my first Pfizer vaccine two days ago and just now felt a lump on my clavicle (left side, same as vaccine).

Glad to find similar experiences here though I'm sorry it is causing worry, especially for those who have been through worse before.

I have had lymph nodes which swell when I'm unwell or on my period for years - I've had blood tests which haven't shown anything, but I've never actually had them felt by a doctor so I'm going to see someone in person in a couple of weeks. I'll ask about my new clavicle friend then if it hasn't gone down and update here.

Sending good thoughts to all who are awaiting results.

  • Thought I would chime in on the thread also, Had my first Pfizer vaccine in my left arm on 18th May, about a week later had an itch on my left collarbone, noticed a small lump feels about the size of a med size pea, cannot be seen by looking but easily felt, from what i can tell feels smooth and very moveable.

Visited my GP 2 weeks ago who said that this area drains the Chest and Abdomen and that it would not be vaccine related? but after reading on here seems many suffer with it.

Is a bit tender but thats probably from me checking it every 20 mins but has been there now for a good 5 weeks, Not knowing if it was there before hand though is a worry.

I have an ultrasound booked for next week so hoping they can shed some light on it.

Symptom wise I have been a little tired and my left shoulder (injection side) still aches and twinges on occasion and occasionally seems like my ribs ache on and off.

I do also have a wisdom tooth abcess on that side above the collarbone so not sure if that could contribute or not.

Finally I hope everyone who has posted has had good results and it turns out to be the vaccine and wish you all the best.

  • Hi

I have had my lump for 10 weeks now. Does not appear any smaller. Bloods ok other than slightly low HCT. I have an ultra sound booked for 30th June.

However I have noticed that it aches a bit over the past few days. It has nt before.

    Has anybody else had this?

Desperately trying not to worry as blood ok on the whole

Brightest blessing to anyone who is struggling and worrying too

    xxxx

  • Mine has started aching over the last few days but I think thats from constantly checking it although not sure. My US is the day after yours so please keep us updated with what they say and I will do likewise.

I hope it all works out for you

    All the best
