Growth in cervix, urgent two week referall

Hi  everyone,

last week I saw the dr for a load of symptoms, I've been very nauseous and dizzy, lost my appetite completely, exhausted and had bleedng after sex.

ive been for my smears but the last one I had this summer came with a letter explaining that they only test for HPV now, if the HPV test is negative then no further tests for abnormal cells will be run. No HPV was found.

On my visit to the dr she inspected and took some swabs with a speculum and told me she could see a red lump covered in yellow dots on my cervix.

i know I shouldn't google but I can't seem to find anything other than cancer that fits this description, and combined with my symptoms I'm very worried.

my sister passed away aged 24 (I'm 29) of ampullary cancer so I know that the risk is very real. If anyone has been through this and has found that a similar growth was something else, what was it?

im mostly concerned about treatment should it be cancer, as I would like to have children and it seems that (from the Googling I shouldn't be doing) that hysterectomy is preferred even in early stages? Is this right? What stage were you and were you able to have treatment that left you fertile still?

  • Hi there,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries and also about your sister. I can certainly imagine this must be a little worrying, but try not to assume anything at this point. Also do steer clear of Googling as the information is so general, and often outdated or irrelevant, and only tends to increase worry.

I hope you're able to find out more soon about this. If you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

And if anyone here has any similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
