Swollen lymph node under jaw line

Hi, just looking for some advice. I'm 28 y/o male, married and have a 7 y/o son. I have a few concerns. My GP didn't really seem interested over the phone and didn't offer me a face to face appointment.

I'll keep it straight forward so it's easy to follow. Symptoms:

1) Breathlessness which can be slight to quite noticable to people around me for at least 6 months

2) cuts all over my legs (both buttocks) from itching that won't heal for at least 5 months.

3) A painless Lump just under my right jaw line (possibly lymph gland?) it's sort of a bean shape, with a minimum size of 1inch, noticed this 12 days ago and it's not getting smaller.

4) I had bloods taken about 4 weeks ago for an unrelated reason and i had a call from the clinic regarding an elevated platelet count. This was 451 so not too high but they want to take bloods again to make sure that goes back down.

5) I have been a lot more fatigued than normal for the past month, feeling a lot weaker than usual, especially my grip for some reason?.

6) My appetite has been gradually getting worse to point where I'll have tiny breakfast and a little sandwich for the day. I'm getting full so easily, to The point where the food feels like it's up to my chest. This causes me to feel sick and I feel very bloated afterwards.

7) I get occasional pain In various parts of my body which can vary day-to-day. This can range from pain in my left side abdomen, shooting pains down my ride or left-arm, sharp pains in my chest, And general dull pains In my upper body. These rarely ever get so painful that I feel the need to mention them as they generally come on go as quickly as they came.
8) I've also been experiencing frequent Nosebleeds, which started around 2 1/2 months ago, these tend to last 5 to 10 minutes before I can take off the tissue without it bleeding. I've had weeks where I've getting them most days, And weeks where I may only get them once or twice a week.

There may be more that I can't think of at the minute, however I have a deep sense that I know that something in my body just is not right at the minute. I am not a Hypochondriac by any stretch of the imagination, in fact it would do me well If I was more like that.
My GP told me yesterday (over the phone) to wait for another 4 weeks before getting another appointment to see if things are still the same (or worse).

I do intend to contact my GP before the four week period I was advised however after reading some of the posts on this forum I think It will do no harm to write out My current situation and see if I can get advice from the kind people on this forum.

kind regards

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

I could certainly identify some of the symptoms  you raised.

I found a solid lump under my right jawline two weeks ago, it could have been there much longer, as I suffered from  autoimmune illness, fatigue  ache and pain, and ongoing inflammation are just part of me.  When I saw my GP last Tuesday , he was concerned  and referring me to ENT for further investigation, under the two weeks rule.

Liked you, I am worried that I have lymphoma too. I have lost 4 Kgs in weight over the last two months.  My appetite is poor too.  I had a sore on my leg and it took 18 months to heal under the dermatologist, but it is possibly related to my poor immune system. I am forcing myself to eat more even a I don't wanted to, as I need all the energy to deal whatever comes my way.

I am due to have a telephone consultation today and is waiting for them to call. I am scared and anxious and is trying to get through the day as best I could.
I would certainly go back to GP  and ask to refer to appropriate service, 4 weeks is far too long. Is your enlarged gland moveable?
    Best wishes.

  • Hi, thank you for replying.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

It sounds as though you're experiencing very similar symptoms. I have also lost 4kg within 5 weeks or so.

how did you get on with the consultant ?

    Adam

  • Hi,

The consultant is going to refer me for an urgent ultrasound and possibly biopsy at the same time, so another wait for 2 weeks, but at least it is a Start. It will be

Please don't get fob off by your doctor, I had a telephone conversation previously with the duty doctor and she put it down to infection. I went back to see my own GP and he referred me straight away.  You symptoms certainly are warranted to be  investigated.

Please let me know how you get on.
    Take care

  • Good I'm pleased you're getting referred quickly. I hope everything will come back clear for you.

Some GP's seem to be very flippent, when it comes to younger people and possible cancer.

i forgot to answer your question on about the lump being movable. My lump is not moveable and like you, this may have been there longer. I found it by default. But even before then I had a deep sense that something was just not right with my body. I can't explain it. Did you have any sort of inclination?

I'm able to get private health care which I pay for through work so I'm going to give that a try.

I'll certainly keep this thread updated as and when and likewise, please let me know if you happen to get any news.

    cheers

    Adam

  • Glad to hear that you might able to use the private health care to aid further investigations/ consultation.

As I have an auto immune illness, aches and pain, infections and inflammations are part and parcel of this illness, so I don't have the inclination liked you did. I found the lump only by accident. I blame myself for being  so careless.  I wanted to stay positive, but it is hard sometimes, as all my symptoms seemed to be indicated of lymphoma. I guess I just have to take things as they come.

I will certainly let you know if there is any news.  Hope you are able to sort out your worries soon.

I wish you well. Take care

  • Hi just a small update.

I still haven't seen a doctor since my last call to them however I still have an enlarged lymph gland just under my jaw and seems to a little bit bigger. I also have my left tonsil much larger than the other. I still get the occasional nose bleeds and there's also blood in my phlegm almost once daily.

I've got to stop procrastinating and just get an appointment.

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

I am sorry to hear that you have not taken up your concerns with your GP, your symptoms certainly need to investigate.  It must be nearly three  weeks since you last spoken to your doctor,   Are you still losing weight?  Please get in touch with your doctor soon, it can't be easy living with all these worries.

I had a biopsy last Tuesday, hopefully getting the result in the next two weeks. I am scared that my condition would get worse while waiting for all these investigations being carried out.  It seemed I am forever waiting  these days.

I will let you know once I have the result of the biopsy.

    Take care, kind regards

  • Hi Adam,

just quick update, no result of the scan or biopsy yet , but got a letter to say a telephone consultation is arranged on 28th of this month. I am not sure the reasons behind it, do they take that long to write a pathology report ?

  • Hi Squrriel88,

My apologies for not replying sooner it's been a hectic few weeks! Ha

how are you getting on and are you any further forward?

I finally pulled my finger out and went to the GP last week. She's done a 2 week referral to ENT for my enlarged tonsil on the left side. I've had my bloods taken too and they come back as 'Abnormal' apparently so we'll see what all of that means shortly.

happy new year to you anyway hope to hear from you soon.

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

So glad to hear that you have been referred to the ENT service,  hopefully you will be seen soon , or at least to have a telephone consultation.

I had a repeat ultra sound scan on the lump  two weeks ago as my first one and biopsy turned out to be inconclusive.  I was told the lump has reduced in size from 3 cm to 19 mm over the last 5 weeks.  I have not received a definitive diagnosis yet, but got a text message today that a doctor will telephone me next week.

Please let me know how you get on.  My thoughts are with you.
Happy New Year to you and your family too.

    Stella
