Symptoms of ovarian cyst, but all tests came back clear?

I've had lower back pain in my right side for 4 months now - a pain that feels it's pressing near my hip bone, above my buttock or on my ovary. I have also had irregular periods for the past year and had some spotting when the pain started.

I had a smear test in the first instance, which came back as HPV and borderline abnormal cells. I had a colposcopy later on and a biopsy taken, which confirmed that the cells had gone back to normal so no treatment or follow up was needed. I also had a swab taken for STIs during this time and urine test for UTI, but all came back normal.

I then had an ultrasound which took ages because of Covid. Doctors were pretty certain I either had an enlarged ovarian cyst or PCOS, however when I had the transvaginal US, everything looked clear and healthy. I had bloods taken a month ago to look for tumour markers, kidney and liver function, thyroid and hormones, but again all normal.

I have another GP appointment on Thursday in which they're actually going to feel my back and perhaps do a test for ceoliacs disease, but just wondering if anyone else had these symptoms and what I should ask the doctor for, such as a CT scan or another ultrasound to be sure?

I don't want to be a hypochondriac but I know something down there isn't right! Oh and I'm 28 if that helps.

  • As I noticed that you hadn't received a reply to this post yet, I thought I might come by to say hello, brainiac098.

I'm sorry to hear that you're worried about your ovarian cyst, but I'm glad to hear your situation is being investigated.

Many of our members here will tell you,it's difficult not to worry when it comes to our health, but I think you took all the steps that were necessary so if you can try to take your mind off it until you get to speak to your doctor again.

You mentioned you have an appointment for today, is this correct? I hope all goes well with it and once you know more, please come back and give us an update. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you.

    All the best,
