Large lump on chest muscle - worried

Hello, I am new to this forum and just looking for some advice really. I noticed quite a large swelling on the upper right muscle on my left breast below my collar bone, about two months ago, I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time and just thought it was normal changes because of the pregnancy. 4 weeks later I had a miscarriage but the lump is still there, usually in the morning the swelling seems larger. I asked the gynaecologist on my last visit to check and he has referred me for a mammogram which is in 3 weeks time but didn’t really seem concerned but then I’m not convinced he felt it properly.

Im just worrying now and wondering whether I should try and get an appointment any quicker and if this could be cancer it’s quite large which i am beginning to panic about. It is not painful and I have no other symptoms.  Any advice gratefully received. Ps I am currently living in France so trying to do all this in French is quite difficult!

  • Hello Yellow76

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past few months. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things.

It's good to hear that you've got a mammogram arranged shortly. Hopefully this will give you some answers and reassurance about the swelling.

It may help you to keep in mind that the majority of women who attend breast clinic here in the UK are not diagnosed with cancer and it's not uncommon to have lumpy breasts. But you've done the right thing in flagging it with the Consultant and getting it checked.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for your kind message, I have managed to get a slightly earlier appointment for the 7th December so hopefully this will at least give me some more answers. I will update after the appointment

  • Finally the day came for my mammogram. The hospital was brilliant, I had my mammogram and went straight into  wait for the doctor to do an ultrasound - he told me I have a large cyst in each breast and a small benign tumour (a Fibroadenomas) - interestingly nothing showed up where I actually thought I had my lump.

They gave me my mammogram xrays and ultrasound images to take home and I had received the letter from the doctor by lunchtime - incredible!

I have to go back in 6months for another mammogram etc to keep an eye on the small tumour. so I feel really relieved and thankful but also still can’t help worrying about these lumps - I’m sure I should stop worrying now but another lump appeared above my existing lump (about an inch below my collar bone) and I just don’t know if the mammogram would have picked this up or whether I am just still worrying unnecessarily. Has anyone else experienced this feeling?
