Waiting.....for breast biopsy results

Hi, I'm just looking for some advice, I had my clinic appointment on 3rd November and had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies with a clip left in place.  They said the results would be 2 weeks but no further info and I didn't ask any questions.

I rang on Tuesday (2weeks) and they said results weren't back yet, but she would ask a secretary to call me Wednesday.  No one called so I rang again this morning and the lady I spoke to said to hold as she was just reading a letter, then quite abruptly said 'no - you're results aren't back yet, if you've not heard by this time next week to ring back' and I have no idea what to make of it??

If there's a letter coming out to me - is it usual to be good or bad news?  If good why not say so on the phone!  I'm not sleeping with all the worry so just trying to guage what could be coming.  Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks

  • Hello Hchy and welcome to the forum.

The wait for results is always tough as many of our members here have found out so I'm sure those who have found themselves in a similar predicament will offer their support and advice to you soon.

I know it's tough but try to stay calm if you can and hopefully your results will be with you soon.

    All the best,

  • Hi [@Hchy]

Just wanted to share my experience in the hopes that yours will be similar.

I know the waiting is absolutely agonising.

I had an ultrasound and core biopsy. Was told to wait for a call for results, but then received an appointment letter. I called up to question it and ask if this is standard practice and do I absolutely need to come in during COVID, but was just told "yes come in, its your results appointment". That was it...

I recieved good news at my results appointment, fibroadenoma. The relief was overwhelming.

During the period of waiting for results, after about 2 weeks, I did recieve a letter from the Breast Clinic to my GP with findings of the initial appointment (22mm solid lump found) and procedures carried out. This may be the letter you have heard about?

I hope all goes well for you. Sending love! X

  • Sending hugs - I found a lump and had ultrasound and biopsies taken on Saturday. Going back in for results tomorrow and scared as heck about it :(

hope you get your results soon as the wait is the hardest part.

  • Hey so glad to hear everything is okay with you! I was just wondering how long it took to get your appointment letter after the letter for your gp? I just received the GP letter yesterday. Thank you ️

  • Hi @katiey-lee

I actually recieved the appointment letter 2 days after the core biopsy was taken (so obviously before results had come back). The GP letter was after about 2 weeks, and only a few days before the results appointment.

Hope this helps! And fingers crossed for you

  • Thank you so much for replying! I hopefully I'll be contacted with the results or with an appointment soon.

once again congrats on the positive news

  • Thank you, and I wish you a good outcome too!
