Worried about tests etc

I found a lump above my collar bone on left side of neck I went to the gp this week and I've had blood tests took which unfortunately I have to do again as there was a minor change, I've always been refered for an chest x ray which is tomororw and I'm not sure what to expect or what they are looking for? She also mentioned I've got to get a needle in the next two weeks inserted into the lump to drain out fluid so I've been put on a cancer wait list which instantly has me anxious any freaked out! Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Hi,

first of all try to remain calm, I know is very difficult as I'm waiting for CT scan results myself.
I'm not a doctor but I'm medically biased and they probably wanted to do X-rays to check for any abnormalities arising from your chest.
The sample of the lump will be a biopsy to analyse it and check what is it and what is it made of. Is good that they're are being speedy about it but try not to get ahead of yourself till you don't get the results.

  • Thank you for your reply! I think it's just happening fast which of course is good but lots for me to cope with! I've never had any of these things before and the biopsy bit has scared me as I have no idea what it entails!

  • Hi, if the biopsy procedure makes you anxious there's nothing wrong of calling your gp office and ask to speak to your dr about the procedure or even with a nurse, I'm sure they can sympathise be with your feelings and be able to explain much better.

  • Thank you! I think because she said it's a cancer waiting list I freaked out lots but she said she feels pretty sure it's not cancer it's just the procedure
