Waiting for biopsy results

Hi everyone. My mum recently had a scan and was then referred for further tests after the scan showed a tumour on her ovary. She had a CA125 test which came back normal at a level of 14, and had a biopsy sent off from the lining of her womb. She has waited a week so far but the doctor told her that the longer the results take the better (although I'm sure he's probably saying that to make her feel more at ease).

Apologies if this is a naive question, I've no previous experience of cancer so I'm unsure how it is diagnosed really, but if her blood test came back fine, does that mean the biopsy will too? Or is there a chance she could still have cancer? She's been bleeding for 5 weeks and is very dizzy, she also has endometriosis, fibroids and previous cysts and polyps.

Thank you x

  • Hello picklepip22

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has had some health problems recently. It's good to know that her blood tests haven't shown any problems. It is quite normal for biopsy results to take a couple of weeks to come back so I wouldn't worry about that.

Unfortunately in terms of your Mum getting a diagnosis for her problems, it's not possible to say that because the blood tests have come back clear that the biopsy results also will but it is important that you stay positive whilst waiting for news.

If you'd like to talk to someone about your concerns then I'd recommend giving our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they will be able to answer some of your questions and offer some reassurance. If you'd like to chat with them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

This period of waiting for results can be difficult so I do hope that your Mum has some news soon.

    Best wishes,
