Urgent colposcopy

Hi just wondering if I should be worried or if anyone has been in a similar position.

Over a year ago I had my first smear which revealed HPV and abnormal cells, they asked me to go back 6 months later and like an idiot it didn't. Anyway I had bled since september , lower back pain & pelvic pain have accompanied it, a Dr on Monday prescribed me 10mg Provera 1 tablet 3x a day to stop the bleeding (they have worked) anyway today I had an appointment, had a smear some swabs and a she felt my stomach area. Before doing the swab however she said after this we'd usually refer you to a gynaecologist, after that ultrasound and last resort would be colposcopy, anyway once she did the examination she said I'm going to make an urgent refferal for you to have a colposcopy because I wouldn't be comfortable waiting to get the results of your smear so you will receive your appointment within 2 weeks. I'm now panicking, she obviously saw something wasn't right whilst examining me I'm just wondering has anyone else experienced this? And what was the outcome ?

TIA

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Bambi2317.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to be referred to an urgent colposcopy and while I can appreciate why this would cause you to be worried try to take your mind from it if you can, the most important right now is that you took action to have it investigated.

Hopefully other members who have gone through the same experience will come along shortly to talk with you and give advice but until then if you feel that chatting with someone with a medical background may help, our friendly team of cancer nurses available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,
