Breast biopsy long wait

Hi all. Been trying not to worry but don't know how long is normal for breast core biopsy result.  Had core biopsy on two areas on one breast on 3rd Nov. Suspicious calcifications ..... lots of samples taken. No idea how long results usually take. Is no news meaning it's not urgent? I was told results get discussed at MDT on Fridays. Two Friday's have been and my results weren't discussed (I spoke to a breast clinic nurse last Friday).

Trying not to assume anything but it's almost a month now since I saw my GP. Is this a good sign?

  • I had a triple assessment last Tuesday. The consultant said my biopsy results should be back within a week or 2. When he left the room the BC nurse who had come in with him said they were taking 2-3 weeks so to prepare myself for a long wait. He did tell me there was a chance it was cancer so wanted me to be prepared. The MDT meetings are Wednesdays so I'm just really hoping they discuss me on the 25th so I don't have to wait over 3 weeks. Good luck, I hope you get a positive answer next Friday.

  • Hi Penelope

I'm still waiting to hear..... results weren't back Wednesday when I rang to see. No idea if I made it onto discussion on Friday or not.

    How are you feeling?

I think may be waiting is one of the worst parts as my imagination is running riot!

I've now found out my consultant has clinic on Tuesdays ..... so doubt I will see her until week after next.

During the week I don't feel so bad as I am at work. Weekends are horrible because I sense I have to wait another week until the next MDT meeting!

I didn't have a BC nurse in the room so may be that's a good sign?

Have you heard if your results are back yet?

    Suzie

  • In case anyone interested in an update. Biopsy result discussed Friday 4th Dec. Seen in clinic today and it's high grade DCIS over area of at least 9cm so looking at mastectomy as lumpectomy not possible due to the size.

Apparently the biopsy took time to come back because it is subjected to lots of different tests to assess if anything invasive happening. Also I had two areas biopsies so twice as much analysis.

I will move over into a more appropriate thread now .... but thought people might want to know the length of my wait.
