Ultrasound scan

Hi, I was just wondering if at an ultrasound appointment they will do a biospy there and then if they think I need one or will I need to come back for another appointment for a biopsy? Thanks

  • I went for an ultrasound of my right axilla a few weeks ago, with a core needle biopsy to be done if required. They advised at the appointment if they found anything that didn't look right, they'd do the biopsy there and then.

My appointment letter said "Ultrasound Guided Core Needle Biopsy" on it, so assume yours would be the same...?

    Hope it helps!

  • Hi Sophxxx

I am going for one too soon and as I understand that most places are a one stop clinic so they will do any necessary tests there and then.

    Hi CJ11

I am having an ultrasound in the exact same place in a week and a half. If you don't mind me asking how did you get on?

Hope you both are keeping well

  • Hi all

I had an ultrasound/biopsy on my right axillary lymph nodes nearly 2 weeks ago. I’m still waiting for the results. I was quite surprised by how quick & painless it was, just a sharp scratch when the local anaesthetic was administered (I had to have 2 lots as apparently they had to go quite deep). I also didn’t realise that they actually go via the top of the breast, not sure if that’s the same for everyone though?

    Good luck all

  • Hello Tig94,

I didn't have to have the biopsy done in the end, the ultrasound was enough to rule out anything bad. The experience was a little bit daunting and I was fairly worried about having the biopsy done (my brain was in full throttle anxiety mode, expecting the worst!), but the nurses were really friendly which made the whole thing easier.

The whole appointment for me lasted about 10-15 minutes. I went in, changed into a gown and had my blood pressure taken. The nurse then explained what would happen: first do the ultrasound, then if they saw anything they'd do the biopsy. The doctor didn't find anything wrong with my axillary lymph nodes, so decided to check my other lymph nodes in my neck (also slightly swollen) just to be safe.

I was really impressed with how quick it was and how nice the staff were while I was in there.

I hope your scan goes ok!

  • Thanks for the reply CJ11.

So pleased you had a good outcome. I do feel a lot better about my appointment from this forum, everyone has helped my anxiety massively from sharing their experiences. All the best.
