lumps in my lower abdomen, can anyone help?

Hi just wondering if anybody can help me or has any kind of advice?

I've had swelling on my lower abdomen on the right side (just above hips)  I could see something (when breathing out it was much clearer to see I found) over the past few months I've had severe pain. I woke up two days ago after spending the night crying in bed due to the pain and I can clearly see it's now spread to the left side. (In total now I've 4 lumps, two either side.) I'm waiting to go to a scan on Monday but due to it being weekend they won't help. Does anybody know anything about this?

(Ive just turned 19 years old, throughout I've experienced irregular periods. I've also found myself in a lot more pain after sex in the past few weeks. )

  • Hi MeganC01,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about the pain you've been experiencing and your worries - I can imagine it must be difficult and unsettling, but it's good to hear you have an appointment today for further investigation. Hopefully before too long you'll get the results of that. It's always best to discuss any questions or concerns you have with your doctor if you can.

I know it's easier said than done but try to keep busy and to keep your mind off things while waiting for results.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you're able to find out more about this soon,

    Ben

  • Hi Megan

Hope your scan goes well today. What kind of scan is it?

I've had similar symptoms (painful back just above the hips and ovarian area, noticeable swelling there too, irregular periods, painful intercourse) and have had various blood tests on kidney, thyroid, hormones, etc and all came back normal.

I also had a smear test which had abnormal changes - but had a biopsy in a follow up appointment and this all came back clear. I also had a TV ultrasound on Friday as I (and my GP) were pretty sure it sounded like an ovarian cyst, however te US came back everything looking normal and healthy. Yet my back/pelvis really hurts and I know there is something wrong!

I have a follow up with my GP to discuss next steps in a week's time so will be interested to see what your scan shows! FYI I'm 28.

Hope it all goes well and keep us posted.

  • Hi there thank you for your reply! Sorry to hear you don't know what's going on either, I know how horrible the waiting game can be! I had my scan which was an ultrasound (they wanted to do internal after the ultrasound but could see all they needed/ I was also unsure about this) they could clearly see them..I was told I'd had an hemorrhagic ovarian cyst that has ruptured on my right side (hence severe pain). All I'd say is just don't read too much into things online and wait on see what you're told by a professional. I read so many things and had so many different things that I thought It could've been but never once would've thought of what it turned out to be!! (If that makes sense)) I've i was told it was dissolving itself which was good! So now I've a follow in 6 weeks to see if it's fully resolved and make sure that I've magically not got another on the left side etc!! Hope all is well with you, feel free to stay in touch x
