9 month sore throat

Hi

I am so glad I have found this forum. I had a sore throat for 8 weeks last October 2019. The doctor said it was silent gastro and placed me on anti acid pills. The sore throat then went. In March 2020 I started getting it again but just on the left side. Its not even at the back of my throat it is in my neck!

Anyway my first thought was oh god ive got COVID:( But no. The docs put be back on the pills and carried on. Its now November and I have had a sore throat every day since MArch. The doctors keep putting me off and keep saying its just gastro. I had a telephone app this monring with ENT who have suggested i go in to have a camera put down my throat. Their nearest appoinment is 8 weeks time!! I am stressing that it could be cancer or something else. I am only 39 and they really dont seem to be taking it seriously.

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you're feeling anxious about this, I think I'm feeling similar to how you are. I'm 37 and have had a sore throat for months I don't have a fever or anything like that. I have an uncomfortable feeling when I swallow and I'm panicking thinking I have throat cancer. I thought it may be Thyroid issues as my dentist said its enlarged and my dad has an underactive thyroid- but from what I have read they don't list swallowing being uncomfortable or sore throat. My doctor felt my neck the other week as I mentioned it off the cuff and almost brushed it off. So I'm worried too. I've made another appointment to tell them what the dentist noticed, but it does feel like I'm being an over reactor to him. Let me know how everything goes.

  • Thanks for response

Thats exactly how i feel. I feel i am bveing over dramtic but its getting me down so much. All the doctors have just brushed it off saying they cant feel anything when i can feel a lump everyday. Its so painful and this week has been unbearable. I do all the right things, eat healthy, dont smoke and dont drink coffee but I still have it. I hope you get yours sorted too.

  • Thanks. Completely understand, I came out and wanted to cry because I felt like I was wasnt being listened to. Sometimes I just get too sore from talking too much.  I'm sure we'll be ok though keep in touch and let me know. It's just not knowing and thinking the worst that is hard. Hopefully well get to the bottom of it all! Push for what you need and don't be Fobbed off we deserve peace of mind and diagnosis of whatever it is.

  • Thanks sweet. The ENT doc said he will make me an appointment but I am not sure I can wait another 8 weeks. Mind you whats 8 weeks in the last 9 months? I will let you know how it goes and keep in touch with yours too.  Good luck!

  • Hi, hope you are ok, went to the doctors yesterday she's put me on a month supply of gastro tablets incase it has anything to do with acid in my stomach hurting my throat. I explained the pressure inside my throat like someone prodding it constantly and uncomfortable at times of swallowing etc. She can't feel any obvious lumps and also suggests that it may be from anxiety. (I do have anxiety) the more I'm aware of it the more I think of it, the more I swallow to see if it's still there etc. So I'm happy to take her advice she doesn't think it's likely to be anything sinister and said that it's v rare for my age and don't fit the demographic or have warning signs of anything. I'm going to have to trust my doctor on this and try to not overly worry about stuff. Let me know how you get on and try not to worry. These things are worrying but rare in all things considered. You're getting it checked and that's the main thing. Here if you need to chat. Xx

  • Hey hun

aww thats great news. I am glad you managed to see your doc. Thats what mine put me on back in March but i still have it :(.

I spoke to the ENT consulatant last Friday and I have an appointmenet at the hosipital on the 11th december to put a camera down my throat. At least then I will know if its anything bad or not. This last week has been hell on earth and I have been in so much pain.

Please keep taking the tablets because they do help. Always here too for a chat xx

  • Hey

I thought id give you an update

So I had an ent app and MRI scans and all came back clear. Interestingly the ENT doc said on the phone yesterday it could be a blocked saliva gland? Whcih honestly makes sense as when i eat spicy food it hurts, which he said could be the fact that the saliva cant take away the spice quick enough so it burns!! Ive looked into it since yesterday and the symptoms are quite alike!!

Anyway I am still suffering nearly a year on but I will keep fighting!!!

  • How are u doing having the same symptoms x

  • Hey.

I am OK thanks. Yes still suffering, however it is not as bad as it was last year! The pain now seems to be up under my ear rather than down my throar, but I am to see a maxillo facial clinic in 2 weeks and then ent again after. Thanks for asking lovely xx
