Any suggestions?

Hi,

I've been suffering for a while with tiredness. Some days worse, other days not so bad. I just put it down to getting older. I've started getting a pressure below my right rib (like someones pushing on it all the time). I've also had quite a few other symptoms:

- Itchy skin

- going to the toilet more (wees up to 10 times a day, and poos I can sometimes go 5 or 6 times a day with a feeling of being full and needing to empty out)

- tiredness from the moment I wake up

- Mood swings. One minute I’ll be as happy as anything, and the next I’m in a bad mood for no real reason

- I get my words mixed up (seems ok in my head, but comes out wrong - not all the time, but I’ve caught myself doing it quite a few times now)

- Bruising easily. My blood test took 5 weeks to heal up (the bruise took 3 weeks)

- Joints ache - in particular my ankle and hip, but other joints also hurt as well (wrist, knee caps in particular)

- Weird red blood spots on my skin - 1-2mm in size, and seem to be under the skin - almost like a blood vessel has popped under the skin)

- I find I get a dry mouth a lot. It doesn’t matter how much I drink, I just feel like I need more. It’s not always like this (a couple of times a day)

Anyway, I've had an ultrasound to look at my abdomen and they are happy that liver / kidneys etc are ok, but she said they can't see the pancreas due to it being behind the stomach - so I'd need a CT scan for that. In all fairness, I got my booking quite fast - the downside is that it's not until the 30th of December, so almost 2 months away!

I'm currently looking into if I can afford to do this privately but most places seem to be £500+ and some of them you need a specialist referral (not just a GP one)

Has anyone got any suggestions? I'm not sure how I'll cope if I have that on my mind for 2 months.

Thanks for your time :)

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

I am going through something much the same pain back in July had a ultrasound told it was a cyst. Had to wait 6 weeks for a ppointment told i would have to wait 6 months, ended up going into A&E twice and gp 3 times had a consultant call me had a camera test no issues had a ct scan have a 1400mm x 1500mm dark spot on my liver hospital MDT is next Tuesday most probably  a Mir scan next.

What's helped me to  cope is a complete diet change smaller meals no processed food, greentea, I walk each day ,before lock down went to a dance class each week.  Sleeping is my only issue only waking about every 2/3 hours each night. pain killers at the moment make me sick lol.

I was also going to go private so i don't blame you if you take that route. But try speaking to your gp making them aware you will travel to any hospital for a sooner apointment they can help you with this.

    Good luck xx

  • Thanks. Sorry to hear you are going through all of that!

I can totally understand why the NHS are overworked with this stupid Covid. Maybe I'll mention that to my GP about travelling. I'm still waiting for some emails back with questions (like "do I need to also pay for a consultant to interpret the scan?"... which it seems like you do with some companies!). I'm also going to mention some other stuff like feeling hungry, yet bloated. Very weird sensation.

  • Please keep me posted how you get on .

  • So just an update. I had my non-contrast MRI yesterday privately, and got the results today. She said all the organs look fine, with no obvious stuff on it that looks out of place / extra large. She said if the pain continues:

"If there is ongoing concern regarding a potential colonic pathology, endoscopy or CT
colonoscopy would be the investigation of choice."

I know something isn't right. I've started getting pain below my ribs in the middle of my front, and sometimes below the belly button (a different kind of pain). It's not all the time - sometimes its after eating, other times its just random. I've also started to notice I'm getting what feels like acid reflux ever had before), and feel out of breath even just getting ready and then laying in bed - not what you expect as 37!)

I'm going to chase up my GP about. I'm happy there was nothing major (huge tumors etc), but I'm still not happy that its nothing - there has to be something causing these symptoms :(

  • So pleased to hear nothing obvious stood out,

I would keep knocking on your GPS door  until they listen. When they were asking me about my symptoms only 1 matched ?? for cancer. Found out today I  have a tumour on my adrenal gland  waiting to hear what happens next  but off for a pet scan nextweek.

When I got to the hospital they didn't have any real information for me i did kick off a little and someone called me back this afternoon (hospital mixup transfer of notes) keep plugging away have you had all your bloods and urine checked.?  Keep me up to date i will let you know how I get on nextweek .

  • Thanks - I will do. Sorry to hear your stuff came back positive, but hope they can get you started on a treatment plan to get rid of the ***
