A little lost

hi guys,

First time Post. Just a bit lost on the what happens next. In February 2019 I had a smear which came back HPV positive. I was due a 12 month folllow up smear in February 2020 however I was pregnant at the time. This smear was put back to October 2020. I attended my smear. The results showed HPV positive and also showed high grade dyskaryosis. 10 days later I was in hospital for a colposcopy. The Dr there said this is usually to confirm the high grade dyskaryosis, however if she thinks she finds it during the colposcopy she's happy to perform a lletz/loop excision at the same time. So, she asked for my permission that if she found CIN3 cells, could she perform loop excision then to which i agreed.

There was a slight complication during the process. The Dr asked if I'd had any covid symptoms in the last 2 weeks to which I said no, she then asked 'good, so youre all fit and well then' which I nodded along to. After the colposcopy she advised, ive just given you some local anaesthetic in to your cervix which contains adrenaline so you may feel your heart race, some shaking and your legs will go numb. I asked if that was safe with my heart problem to which she seemed stunned by and then advised me I had time to tell her about this when she asked if I was fit and well. Id assumed that question was about general health and not a heart problem from 15 years ago. I was quite upset and felt I was being blamed for this. Anyway, she continued and performed the loop excision. She advised I would hear something in 2-3 weeks by post and if its all clear I'd go for.6 monthly smears BUT I dont recall her telling me anything about if it isn't clear? She didn't even advise of what was happening to the cells she was sending off. I'm.assuming they're being tested for cancer? I just feel totally lost and that there's no one I can turn to who doesn't think I'm.over reacting

Tia guys

  • Hi Lifewith3

i had a LLETZ procedure 4 years ago due to CIN3 being found. I was told by my consultant the same as you, if nothing is found, 6 monthly smears. Like you, I wasn't told anything if something was found. I received a letter for an appointment to see my consultant after a few weeks from the procedure. She told me that the LLETZ had all the abnormal cells and I could go to 6 monthly smears. She also told me that I have cervical ectropian.
you should receive a letter with their findings.
Try not to over think everything. It will drive you crazy (I am currently waiting on a  biopsy result). Don't use doctor google. It's the worst thing possible (I have been trying to look for best case). The waiting is the worse thing at the moment. Try to keep your brain busy.

    Keeping fingers crossed for you

  • Good morning! I had the same smear grade and procedure last year and felt the same as you, they do test the cells in a lab to see if any pre-cancerous cells are there, mine came back clear. Try not to over think it but any changes to your periods or pains just get a follow up and the 6 month smear will be very important to see if any new cells are growing.

wishing all is clear for you xx
