Ovarian cancer

Hi everyone

I'm 29 and have symptoms of ovarian cancer. I have been struggling with painful periods for a while and attended a&e yesterday where the dr noticed my symptoms may point to ovarian cancer. He has referred me under the 2 week wait hoping I'll be seen in a few days as he felt a mass during examination.

It's scary and frustrating that people put an age on things like this. If it turns out to be cancer this may have been found last year. Young people get cancer too.

I've accepted the fact it's likely cancer from the way the dr was talking and his body language he was clearly concerned and actually accidentally referred to me as a cancer patient

I'm not worried about surgery because I want a hysterectomy anyway because of my period but I am worried about things like chemo and my kids.

My 8 year old is autistic and will associate cancer will death and is very emotional and obsessive

Just wondering how people dealt with diagnosis and telling children

Thankyou

  • Welcome to the forum Reccabex although I'm sorry that the doctor thinks your symptoms may be signs of ovarian cancer.

We'll be hoping that this isn't the case but if the news isn't favourable then our community will be here to support you.

I know quite a few of our members have asked how to break the news to their children before so I'm sure some of them will offer their tips and advice to you soon but in the meantime I hope this information we have on our wesbite will help if you are given a cancer diagnosis.

Fingers crossed you won't be waiting too long to find out.

    Kind regards,
