NHS Breast Clinic referral Glasgow - which hospital?

Hi, my elderly mum has just been told by GP she is to be referred to the breast clinic in Glasgow to investigate two lumps. GP wasn't sure excatly where clinic is located ( mum lives at a distance near Oban). I know we'll find out when the appointment letter comes but I'm trying to suss out where I'll be taking her.

Can anyone tell me - is there one hospital in Glasgow where the breast clinic is based?

  • Hi Janice_A

So sorry your poor mum has to travel all the way to Glasgow for scans. Breast clinics are in various Glasgow hospitals but with covid I'm not sure which ones will be accepting patients.

Most are seen at Mandela Place

but there are also clinics at Gartnavel and New Victoria

I hope everything goes well for your mum x

  • Hi Magpiemaggie , and thanks so much for your kind reply.

Yes it will be a long day (mum's 91 and quite frail) but a friend will drive us down so I'm not touring around trying to park, which I know from other outpatient experiences is always a bit of a nightmare! Really hoping, with covid, I can go in with her at least to discussion after her exam. NHS is absolutely right to limit numbers but, given her age and genaral frailty, I hope it will be possible.

I see you've been through this, so wish you all the best for the future and thanks for taking time to contact me. x

  • Gosh 91 years old and having to go all that way - shocking. There was a woman from Oban having her op the same time as me but she had family in Glasgow to stay with. The results won't be in for a week or two after the scans so I guess they would call with results rather than making you travel all that way again.

Yes, unfortunately, I have been through it but came through the other end relatively intact. Let us know how mum gets on and will have my fingers crossed for her x
