Small lump and told it was ‘just skin’

Hi all

Just looking for some advice really as I have just had a checkup after finding a small lump on my right breast. I was concerned as the lump was hard, a bit smaller than pea size and was immobile. I have been to the doctors this morning after describing the lump in detail and also the fact that I had a lump and pain in my armpit previous to the lump. The nurse touched only the surface of my breast and said 'it's just skin' and 'have you used a new soap?'. She didn't fully feel the area or put pressure on and I felt as if the check was rushed.

When I feel it I know it is not skin because it is way below the surface. I feel a bit frustrated and as though I wasn't taken seriously due to my age (22) and the fact she had already said 'it won't be anything serious at your age'. Has anyone had an experience similar to this? I didn't come away satisfied and I'm not really sure what to think about it all!

Any advice is hugely appreciated!

  • Welcome to the forum SophE although I'm sorry that the nurse hasn't given you the reassurance you were seeking.

We have had a few younger members sharing similar experiences so you're not alone and hopefully some of them will get back to you soon but in the meantime do persist with getting this looked at again (maybe you could try getting a second opinion from a doctor?) as you know your body better than anyone.

I hope you're able to get some peace of mind over this soon SophE and that the lump isn't any cause for concern.

    All the best,
