feeling anxious with Neck lump

Hi,

i found a Neck lump about 11mm  (right submandibular salivary gland) about 5 weeks ago after a cold, although it may have been there longer.

The lump is rubbery and moveable, I was giving antibiotics in my local walk in clinic at the hospital 4 weeks ago (couldn’t get into my GP).

It did not disappear or get smaller, i contacted my GP and have since had blood tests which came back as satisfactory. I had an ENT appointment on the 28th of October and was given a U/S and FNA.

The consultant could not give me a definite date for the result but I rang ENT today and they stated, I now have an appointment on November the 23rd. This seems quite along time to wait for a FNA result to me, especially when I had it in my head it would be about 2 weeks after reading this online and my consultant said the results would take a week or 2. But I’m now struggling with the thought of having to wait such a long time (25 days since u/s scan & FNA), is there any advise anyone can offer in relation of how to get through this waiting time ?.

Many thanks

  • Hello RadDc

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently needed some tests on a lump. I know that many of our members here will understand how difficult this period of waiting for results can be. It's natural to feel anxious about what you may be told.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through and so I wonder if you might find it beneficial to speak to one of our team of nurses about things. It may help you to feel less anxious over the next few weeks. If you'd like to speak to them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your appointment brings some reassuring news.

    Best wishes,
