Worried about bowel cancer

Hi was juts after a little advice .... I started experiencing pain above my belly button for around 3 weeks with nausea ... This has now spread to my lower back and experiencing having to go to the loo around 3 - 5 times a day ... I've been back and forth to my gp on 4 occasions been prescribed omeprezole and pep tac and painkillers ... my doctor has referred me for an scan but due to the current conditions with the covid pandemic I could be looking at months of waiting ... I'm extremely anxious and worried that this is colon cancer after reading numerous articles on google ... The pain is more so in my back than my stomach and has been going on now for months ... I'm a 36 year old female .. Any advice would be much appreciated .. Thanks.

  • Hi, I've had similar issues to you. However with me there isn't really any pain. I've had a mild discomfort in my lower left area of my bowels. It all started with one slightly raised lymph node in my groin area. How did you go about getting your GP to refer you?

  • Hi sorry you are going through this worry.

Have you tried buscopan, if what you have is IBS this may help but I would still get checked out.

Have you seen any blood in the loo?

Try not to google, we all do and regret it, almost anything you put in has a cancer result and it is then that one which sticks in your mind.

Omeprozole is more for higher up like indigestion/heartburn so stomach rather than bowel.

Don't give up until you have an answer for your pain.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear your worried. I am in the same position unfortunately. After seeing my GP with what I thought was menopause symptoms I was sent for bloods. Then a physical exam resulted in a possible femoral hernia. So I was referred to a consultant. He has requested a abdominal scan and a flexi sigmoidoscopy. I have almost constant lower abdominal pain and back pain. My bowel functions are all over the place. You're right to say never Google you're symptoms but you can't resist can you. My anxiety over this is heightened as I lost my Dad to bowel cancer 3yrs ago.
