Lump in left breast.

Hello,

About 2 weeks ago I found a small lump in my left breast, I check regularly so I know it was relatively new. I'm only 24 and have no family history so everyone keeps saying it'll be fine but I know that's not always the case!

It's about the size of a grape, very hard, doesn't really seem to move around and sits very close to my ribs. It also feels smaller when I'm lying down.

I had a breast exam the day after I found it and she referred me to the breast clinic, which frightened me a bit but she said she was just being cautious.

I have an ultrasound on Nov 4th and honestly, I'm terrified. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and severe anxiety and Im really not dealing well.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar lump and had it be benign? I'm trying to hope for the best but I also think I need to be realistic and this doesn't really seem like it's going to be good.

  • Hello always-waiting

I saw your post and noted that you have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow. I know that many of the members here will understand how worrying this period of waiting can be but I just wanted to try and offer you some reassurance that the large majority of women who have breast lumps are not diagnosed with cancer.

Hopefully the appointment tomorrow will give you some positive news. Do let us know how you get on.
    Best wishes,

  • Totally forgot to update this. Went for the ultrasound and she suspected Fibroadenoma. They won't biopsy because I'm under 25 (only by 4 months ) so I don't really feel like I can calm down about it. I don't know how often it's misdiagnosed but I just feel like I'm constantly worrying about it now. She said "the only reason we would biopsy is to confirm its benign" I just sort of thought, isn't that the whole reason I'm here?!? I don't know maybe it's just me being me but I feel really uneasy about it all.

  • Hey did you get anywhere with this? So strange they wouldn't do a biopsy! I'm 22 and I had one the other day xx

  • Unfortunately not. Was just told to keep an eye on it. To my knowledge it hasn't changed in size or shape at all so I suppose that's good? I have had some infrequent pain on that side of my chest lately but that could also be anxiety related as that is a symptom for me. Still just a bit worried about it all to be honest. But I turn 25 in march so I may just go in then and ask them to look again. Glad you were able to get one though!! I hope all is well for you!
