Breast pain

Hi all. I am trying not to freak out. I have just turned 50 and have been suffering with intermittent breast pain, soreness and tenderness for a week. I was on my period but have now finished and still have aches and pains. There are no lumps or bumps or redness, dimpling etc. It is just pain. It start ced in one area but is now in different areas intermittently. I have taken Ibuprofen and I think it has eased but it's hard to tell. I have spoken to my GP via telephone consultation and she is referring me for an ultrasound or mammogram "to put my mind a ease". She does not think it sounds sinister. Has anyone else had breast pain and it turned out to be OK?

Thanks

Melanie

  • I'm sorry about the pain you've been experiencing in your breast Melanie but it's reassuring to see that the doctor doesn't think it's anything sinister.

Understandably this will continue to play on your mind until you've had your referral but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been in a similar position and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

In the meantime if you'd like to find out what may happen at your appointment, just click here.

  • Thank you for your reply Steph. I haven't had any replies to my post. Do you think that breast pain is usually not associated with BC? I have days of being OK about it then I start worrying which affects my mood, sleep pattern etc. I have no idea how long I will have to wait for my appt during the current pandemic. . Any advice you can give me would be really helpful.

    Thanks

  • Hi Melanie, unfortunately I can't answer this question but we do have a team of cancer nurses you can discuss this with next week on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9p.m - 5p.m and they'll do everything they can to answer your questions and support you at this time.

I know the waiting must be really tough but if you can do try and distract yourself so you're not thinking about this too much.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k.
