Possible Ovarian Cancer

I've been having pelvic pain for a couple of months and went to the doctors who prescribed antibiotics for a UTI. However, they didn't improve the situation and I was given more antibiotics. Fastforward two weeks and I was still in pain and returned to the doctors who game me a further course of antibiotics, eventhough my urine wasn't indicating an infection each time they sent it off. Over this time I started to not feel like eating, kept getting really bloating and still had all the symptoms that came with the suspected UTI - groin/pelvic pain, frequent urination, nausea and lower back pain.

Today the pain suddenly intensified and I went to A&E and they seemed confused as to why I kept being given antibiotics when my urine cultures were clear. I've been given some strong painkillers and anti-sickness tablets and they've booked me in for an ultrasound tomorrow morning. The doctor said they need to have a look to rule out anything sinister and, as I'm only 21, I understand that ovarian cancer is not common in my age group, but I'm absolutely terrified. At this point I'm just tired and would really like some answers. I just really needed to vent.

  • Hi AmbiBambi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm glad you found this forum as it is certainly a safe space to vent.

I'm also glad to hear you had a referral for a scan, which hopefully you have had by now and I hope it won't be too long until you get the results of this. At that point do use the appointment as an opportunity to discuss any questions you may have.

I hope the pain eases soon for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
