50/50 chance of Hodgkins or Lukemia

My husband is 36 and otherwise fit and healthy,

we have found lumps in his neck, groin, armpit, we have today been for a blood test and chest x-ray. His doctor told him it's a 50% chance he had Hodgkins or Lukemia as his grandad had Lukemia and his mum died of breast cancer. We are very worried and trying to get an ultrasound booked in ASAP. We are going to call the doctor tomorrow morning for the results of the chest x-ray but I know it won't be a diagnosis. I feel terrible as knew he had a lump in his neck a few months ago and didn't think much of it, it's only now the limp in his groin came up two weeks ago and I've had a look online and realised he's been itching. He even has funny spot lumps on his back that look like skin lymphoma, I just thought this was acne from training in the gym. I am trying to prepare myself and him for what might be, I hope his age will mean we have a good chance at a full recovery. He's been training loads in lockdown and he's never been so fit and muscley so it really is hard to believe it might be something as he doesn't look sick at all.  Be interested to find out more info on diagnosis process so I can chase all the appointments up, at the moment we don't have a referral to anywhere but we are waiting for full bloods to come back early next week. Can this really be cured? Is 36 a young age to get this? Should I make him live like a saint while we wait to find out and give up smoking and his weekly beer night?! Do oranges help? Just feel like I need to do something! Waiting and not knowing is just so painful and feels like such a waste of time when time is important with these things. Thanks for listening x

  • Hello Cazular

I'm sorry to hear about the concerns around your husband's health at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about what may be causing these symptoms.
I hope that you were able to speak to the GP yesterday about the x-ray results and that the blood results come back quickly next week.

I know that this period of uncertainty waiting for tests, results and appointments can be really difficult. Facing the unknown is a scary prospect and it's natural that you may be looking for answers. If you can avoid searching the internet for information it will certainly help. There is a lot of unreliable and inaccurate information and until you have a diagnosis it won't give you the answers you're looking for; it will however lead to you feeling much more anxious about things.

I think it would be good if you were able to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure that they will be able to offer you some advice, support and information that you may find helpful. If you'd like to chat to them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some news soon. Do let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,
