2ww Two scans in one week should I be worried

Had an ultrasound Tuesday as suffering lower left abdominal pain for six months. On and off but every other month and bad pain for 3-6 days. GP called me same day as scan, received 2ww letter yesterday and booked in for triage/ MRI or CT scan tomorrow. Two scans in four days feels scary as well within 14 day 2 ww limit.

  • Hello Smudge96

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about what may be going on for you.

I'm not sure what your GP said to you when they rang but if you've questions whilst you're waiting for your appointment with the specialist then do give your GP a call. They may be able to help answer some of your questions.

The good news is that having had both these scans before seeing the Consultant that they should be in a position at your first appointment to know what it is that's causing your problems and hopefully should be able to discuss what the best options for you are.

If you think it might help to talk things through with one of our nurses then you're most welcome to call them for a chat. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi GP, said something suspicious and need to refer for MRI/CT scan. I then received a letter by e-mail, the 2WW letter. I was called and had 2nd appointment (turned out not to be scan) but an appointment to see gynaecology consultant. he made it clear that this was oncology clinic which I understood from researching the 2ww pathway on the web. Took blood for markers which I know from research is CT125 for ovarian cancer. I will now be referred for MRI scan. They also attempted and gave up trying to take a biopsy as I was in too much pain and bled from my cervical area. I am still in quite a bit of pain and still a small amount of bleeding. I know now looking at possible ovarian cancer and womb cancer. I am several years post-menopause and never had children, so seem to fit perfectly with a higher risk of uterine cancer. I am OK, nothing I can do until results come back so remaining positive
