Lung nodes

Hello everyone,

This is all new to me and I'm very scared.

I had an accident last week and spent a couple days in hospital.

As part of my treatment I underwent a ct scan.

Before I was discharged the next day a doctor came in to me, shut the door and said the scan had shown 4-5 nodes on my lungs, he said they were small and I shouldn't worry too much right now.

He said I would get a phone call within a couple of days to make an appointment to see a cancer specialist.

Its been a week now and I've not heard anything.

Is this normal and could I be loosing the benefit of finding them early on?

I don't know the processes involved here and I'm sure covid is disrupting things a lot but im now recovering from my accident enough to be worrying about this while I'm laid up healing.

I don't want to start ringing cancer departments up etc (I wouldn't even know where to start) taking their valuable time up but I'm getting really anxious/scared which sounds silly as I write it but i don't know whats happening.

Am I worrying too much and should leave it for a while longer or should I have had contact by now? I just don't know what to do. The stress/worry is starting to affect me mentally now, I feel I just need to know whats happening.

What should I do?

Thank you for your time, I know there's worse off people than me but it doesn't lesson my worry.

  • Hello Scoobysrt

I've just noticed your post hadn't had a reply. I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been in hospital and that the tests you had raised some other concerns. It's understandable that you're feeling worried and a bit overwhelmed by it all.

If you've still not heard anything then I would start by contacting your GP on Monday morning. They may have already had communication from the hospital about what has happened and will be able to support you in finding out about the appointment that you are waiting for.

Whilst you're waiting for the appointment with the specialist you're welcome to speak to one of our team of nurses for some advice and support if you think it might be helpful. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you continued recovery from your accident goes smoothly. Do let us know how you get on with things.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Jenn, its quite difficult to get an appointment with my gp but I will try on Monday, thank you for your reply. I will update as and when.

  • A small update for anyone reading.

Still no appointment so I contacted my gp today.

As it stands it seems the a&e doctor should not have told me I have lung cancer, he is not qualified to say such a thing and instead of contacting the cancer specialists he actually sent it on to the respiratory clinic which runs on a 2 week reply process.

A specialist has now seen the scans and an appointment will be sent to me during the next 48 hours to discuss options and hopefully a treatment plan can be made.

Thank you for your help Jenn.
