Referral to breast clinic

Hello everyone,

I'm still a little in shock after going to my gp yesterday with a solid and slightly painful area on the outside of my right breast and being referred for an ultrasound and potential biopsy.

he suggested I would be seen quickly and likely receive a phone call in the coming day or so re: the appointment but I haven't heard anything today and frankly I am torturing myself with the potential outcomes. I'm trying to stay off google and remind myself that at 31 chances are it's not sinister.

I have told one friend who has offfered to come to the appt with me (not even sure if that is allowed).

im based in Edinburgh and hoping this wonderful online community might be able to help me understand the timescales and how the process works.

wishing you all the best,

Rosie.

  • @twin33 I really hope you don't have to wait to long as the waiting is so hard as its so mentally draining, being all over the place and feeling in your own bubble,  I was at my gp on 06 nov ,she said she put me  through for urgent 2 week referral , I still haven't heard anything so i'm going to phone up tomorrow see what they say...

I hope you hear from the breast clinic soon,  let us know when you get your appointment through, .xx

  • Hi

Awwww bless you, wow you have waited a long time.It is so stressful with covid and seeing family, and you still haven't been seen.I hope you get seen before Christmas and be reassured.

I will keep you updated when I hear from breast clinic.

I believe when they give you an appointment,  you have to have a covid test 48 hrs before you attend the hospital.

We have to stay strong, hope your feeling OK, please keep me updated.

    We will stay strong together

  • Hi Rosie

It could be a cyst, as I had one but also a tumour, it will be quick a week or so, they do your mammogram and ultrasound, the staff are great.

Think positive it could be nothing to worry about. The doctors are very good and I was seen nearly every week while I was working, had surgery 6 weeks ago.

I hope u get good news.  All the best.

    Ria

  • Hello, hope everyone is ok.

[@Kelbel80]‍  did you phone the hospital to check on your appointment?  I phoned again today to check what was happening

I went to my GP on 23.10.20 and got a 2-week urgent referral (although they messed up and didn't send it in until 30.10.20) so nearly 6 weeks ago. Today they said that it will be 9-10 weeks from the referral but as that will be over Christmas it will be unlikely that I will be seen before a further 6 weeks! That will be nearly 3 months!

    AARRGGHHH

  • Hi [@Buntie]‍,

Sorry for jumping on, hope you don't mind. Just thought I'd let you know the lengthy process I've had.

I was given an urgent referral on the 27/10/20. I phoned after the two week mark only to be told that they are experiencing up to six week delays due to covid. I have been phoning every week or so, spoke to a lady who explained they were trying to get me seen at a different hospital due to my age (I'm 25) and was told I will be contacted within the next few weeks.

I have been a complete emotional wreck convincing myself of the worst.

Phoned the clinic back this morning only to be told to wait AGAIN. At this point I couldn't hold back the tears and became very emotional and literally just pleaded with lady on the phone. I expressed how scared I was and the fact that I had been waiting almost six weeks already was magnifying my emotions even more.

The lady spoke to her manager and I have an appointment for next Tuesday at 10am! So they can do it! It took a whole lot of emotions to get to this point but finally!!

What symptoms do you have? Xx

  • Don't mind you replying at all!

That's good you have an appointment but not good that you have had to go through what you have to get it. What health region are you in?

I first went to the doctors with a hard painless lump. The gp agreed that it should get further checks and but she also found other areas that she said were concerning. What about you?

  • I'm in the Midlands.

I discovered a slight indentation on my right breast.. only visible when my arm is raised.

Was your referral marked as urgent? How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

  • Hi ladies, I've my app next Thursday. Cant stop thinking  about  it to be honest. Its so hard not to think the worst. My lump is to left of nipple like a pea. Does anyone have any other symptoms? I have strange metal taste in my mouth and definitely tired like I need a nap every day! But that could be normal anyway. Hope ye get appointment  soon

    Xx

  • Hey @buntie thats crazy , why do we get told 2 week urgent referral then have to wait this long :(

I phoned the breast clinic but never got an answer , so will need to phone back when my daughter are not in ears distance as I don't want to tell them until I know the outcome... the receptionist at my doctors said she aas gonna leave a not for the gp that saw me to give me a call the next day when she was back in but I havent received that call yet which is frustrating also :(

Hope your doing ok,  I'm here if you need to offload.xxx

  • Thankyou @twin33 , how are you doing, hope your ok hun have you heard anything from your breast clinic yet..?

We are all here if you need to offload ..xxx
