Referral to breast clinic

Hello everyone,

I'm still a little in shock after going to my gp yesterday with a solid and slightly painful area on the outside of my right breast and being referred for an ultrasound and potential biopsy.

he suggested I would be seen quickly and likely receive a phone call in the coming day or so re: the appointment but I haven't heard anything today and frankly I am torturing myself with the potential outcomes. I'm trying to stay off google and remind myself that at 31 chances are it's not sinister.

I have told one friend who has offfered to come to the appt with me (not even sure if that is allowed).

im based in Edinburgh and hoping this wonderful online community might be able to help me understand the timescales and how the process works.

wishing you all the best,

Rosie.

  • Hi @buntie, how are you, have you heard anything about your appointment yet..?

Hi everyone just checking in to see how everyone is..

Still waiting on my urgent referral to breast clinic appointment(which doc said would be in a couple weeks) to come through, this is the second week, I know it won't be that quick to come through but I do catch myself watching the letter box for when the postman is due...xx

  • Hi [@Kelbel80]‍ hope you're doing ok.

I phoned the hospital again today hoping that 8-9 weeks timeframe had somehow reduced but it's now 9-10 weeks!! And that's a 2 week urgent referral!! Sadly, I doubt if we'll hear this year. I recommend giving the hospital a phone so you're not waiting for the mail everyday for the next 2 months.

    How is everyone else?

    Xx

  • Oh girls I really feel for you - thats a crazy time to wait. I feel so lucky to be in Scotland as my urgent 2 week referral ended up being c4 weeks (which still feels like a  lifetime). Lucky work is very busy and I have lots of other distractions to try and keep my mind busy.

i also received a note saying I can bring someone with me to the appt but no idea if that rule is different now the tiers in Scotland have been increased in so many areas.

im thinking of you all. My appt is on the 25th - I really don't know what to expect or how I'll react if it's bad news. I don't have children and I think the worst idea is telling my parents who I can't see now due to covid - geographically....the prospect is just awful.

  • Hi [@Rosie1989]‍ , fingers crossed you get good news at your appointment, I bet it will be a long week!

I am in Scotland but I think a different health board to you - I'm Tayside, if I remember correctly are you Edinburgh? At least it's a very busy time of year, not much chance to dwell on 'what ifs'. Who am I kidding, that's all I do! Although, statistically, our chances of it being good news are high, I try to remind myself of that.

Take care, and keep us posted.

    Xx

  • Yes [@Buntie]‍ , well remembered ! Exactly there are lots of things we can do to preoccupy ourselves ... but you're right it's always there isn't it ! I do the same and remind myself of the statistics. My fingers are crossed for all the ladies on this thread.

I'll absolutely post after the appt, good or bad news to let those who are waiting know what the appt is like, I have no idea what to expect as I'm sure many of you are the same! Xxx

  • Hi [@Rosie1989]‍  hope it went well at your appointment this week

[@Kelbel80]‍ have you heard anything about your appointment yet

  • @buntie I still haven't heard a thing about an appointment yet, gonna call on Monday..

How are you buntie have you heard anything more or you still needing to wait for the 9-10 weeks...? Xx

  • Hi [@Kelbel80]‍

I presume it's still 9-10 weeks, haven't phoned again as they might increase it again!

Let me know what they say to you when you phone , we should be getting told the same thing as it's the same hospital but who knows!

  • I will post tomorrow after I have phoned to let you know if its the same length waiting time or sooner(hopefully not later tho) ...xxx

@rosie1989 how did your appointment go.x

  • Hi

I hope all goes well for you.Its hard waiting.

I found a lump size of 10p on collarbone and went for ultrasound. I was told it was a fatty lump.I was in and out in 5 mins.

I since found another lump under armpit size of large strawberry(same side-right side) I went back to gp she referred me 2 weeks apt.

    That was on 18th Nov.

The hospital only recieved my referral on mon 23rd Nov

They called me and said they are still catching up, yesterday I found a small pea size on outside of nipple , same side, right side.

I am wondering if they can all be fatty lumps.

I feel so tired, sweats and chills, only bedtime.

I don't know what they can be, I still waiting for my 2 wk breast clinic apt.

Hope all goes well for you. Xxx
