Referral to breast clinic

Hello everyone,

I'm still a little in shock after going to my gp yesterday with a solid and slightly painful area on the outside of my right breast and being referred for an ultrasound and potential biopsy.

he suggested I would be seen quickly and likely receive a phone call in the coming day or so re: the appointment but I haven't heard anything today and frankly I am torturing myself with the potential outcomes. I'm trying to stay off google and remind myself that at 31 chances are it's not sinister.

I have told one friend who has offfered to come to the appt with me (not even sure if that is allowed).

im based in Edinburgh and hoping this wonderful online community might be able to help me understand the timescales and how the process works.

wishing you all the best,

Rosie.

  • Hi hope you don't mind me jumping on,  I found a lump in my right breast last week and went to see my gp on Friday,  my anxiety is through the roof , i been referred to breast clinic, gp said she put as urgent so I should hopefully get appointment on couple weeks,  gp said to try not think about it to much and not to go looking for the lump either, I just turned 40 couple weeks ago, I feel and convinced myself that this is away be the worst outcome,  looking at my baby and her sisters i can't imagine not being here for them , I'm so scared can't stop crying...even telling myself that it would have spread to far also for anything to be done... :(

  • Hi,

I am having my consultation in Leeds on Friday the 13th - hope this will be lucky Friday!
Can I ask you how did it go?
    X

  • Hi @Kelbel80,

How are you doing? Have you heard about an appt. yet?

  • Hi buntie,  still not heard anything yet :(  my anxiety its through the roof , trying stay busy which is a bit easier through the day cause I have my 11 month old daughter who keeps me on my toes...

I sit waiting for my appointment but then think of what that actually means when it comes through and then think the worst... I know there is people worse off than me but this is the most scared and lonely I have ever felt ...

How are you doing buntie ( I live in dundee , scotland) xx

  • Hi Kelbel80,

We're neighbours! I'm down the road in Perth - same health board. I'm afraid I'm going to be the bearer of bad news, Tayside 2 week urgent referrals are taking about 8 or 9 weeks at the moment, and we'll hear when our appointments are about 2 weeks before the date. I found this out last week after running home at lunch to check the mail every day for 2 weeks. I eventually phoned the hospital and they explained it all to me. Give them a phone, fingers crossed it might be different for you.

On the plus side, I have actually relaxed a bit! I know it sounds crazy but knowing I won't hear anything for a few weeks means I'm not on edge, constantly waiting for the mail.

    Sorry! Xx

  • Aww thankyou for letting me know , thats crazy it seems so so  long to have to wait, I hope I can relax a bit like you cause these last few days from Friday have been dreadful and they also feel like they have been the longest...

I'll give them a phone if haven't heard anything come Monday as I'm still in the first week just now..

Thankyou buntie, If u need a blether or to rant I'm here :) also let me know when you get your appointment through.xxx

  • Had a really random phone call tonight from the clinic saying they are doing an extra clinic day this Saturday and my name has come up to move appointment forward. So Im going this Saturday after waiting over a month.

Fingers crossed all goes well - looks like they're starting to do clinics through the weekends now, so hopefully will bring down the waiting times for people

  • That's good to know, hope you get the answers you want. Fingers crossed other health boards do the same x

  • Hi

ive had exactly the same! Was due 26th nov but they phoned to say they doing extra clinics and I'm booked in for this Saturday! Originally referred on 14th October.

  • Good luck for tomorrow xx

Let us know how you get on xx
