Referral to breast clinic

Hello everyone,

I'm still a little in shock after going to my gp yesterday with a solid and slightly painful area on the outside of my right breast and being referred for an ultrasound and potential biopsy.

he suggested I would be seen quickly and likely receive a phone call in the coming day or so re: the appointment but I haven't heard anything today and frankly I am torturing myself with the potential outcomes. I'm trying to stay off google and remind myself that at 31 chances are it's not sinister.

I have told one friend who has offfered to come to the appt with me (not even sure if that is allowed).

im based in Edinburgh and hoping this wonderful online community might be able to help me understand the timescales and how the process works.

wishing you all the best,

Rosie.

  • Hey [@Rosie1989]‍,

I'm in a similar position to you and currently waiting for my urgent referral to come through. Mine was arranged on Tuesday and I haven't heard anything as of yet. Their aim is to have you seen within the two week period.
You may be contacted by phone, text or letter (people are saying different things lol)

    Try to remain positive! Xxx

  • Thank you so much [@Zaraaa_]‍ - the waiting is just awful isn't it and I'm only 24 hours in. My fingers are crossed for you that your visit to the clinic is positive.

I keep checking my phone and hopefully will hear something soon.

do you know what the policy is with bringing a friend for support ? I imagine it differs by local health board!

  • Hi [@Rosie1989]‍

i am in the same situation as you with the same symptoms ans am 30.

I was referred yesterday and waiting for my appointment. Feeling super anxious about when it will be and what to expect.

Also wasn't expecting to be referred after going to the doctors for pain without a lump etc

  • Hi iam in a very similar position to yourself.

I found a lump in my left breast on Friday , went to my GP on Tuesday who made an urgent referral for a mammogram. She said if I hadn't heard anything by today I was to chase the appointment up. I haven't heard anything so gave them a ring who said they were a little bit behind and would be in touch soon.

i am out of my mind with worry and need to stay off Dr Google. I have convinced myself I have Breast Cancer that has spread. Do you have pain anywhere ?

My back and neck are in so much pain , also my breast is sore.

Hope you get your appointment through soon.

  • Hi there [@SomG12]‍ I'm sorry you are probably in the same state of shock as me! I thought they would feel it and put my mind at ease... but nope, pretty much the opposite.

my fingers are crossed for you - I hope you get an appt soon and it's positive news.

  • Hi they're [@Jadey12]‍ - definitely try and stay off google !!

i don't have pain anywhere else (apart from where the solid area is in my right breast. I do however feel incredibly run down and have done for a few weeks now ... which is making me extra stressed about it all.

I really hope you hear soon - obviously this is all brand new to us but things always feel better once you are able to set some actions in motion and work our what you're dealing with.

I think this is potentially extra hard to deal with as covid throws so many more questions into the mix ... can I bring someone with me, does this mean if I hve 'it' I need to shield .... just the start of the questions really !!

  • Thank you. Yes Covid does not help, iam comvinced I have it and it has spread to my bones !, I have a constant headache also, I went to my GP before Covid with breast pain but no lump was found and now I am in this position I can't help but feel it has spread.

    take care xxx

  • My fingers are crossed for you - please let me know how you get on. the body can do crazy things when you convince yourself the worst.... you have completely done the right thing with repeated doctor visits so well done - so many would ignore their bodies or not feel confident enough to do so xxxx

  • I hope you get you appointment through soon and have my fingers crossed for you too in these scary times.

    wishing you well.

  • I'm not entirely sure myself but I'm assuming that you will have to attend alone which is really stressful but I'm hoping more will be revealed when we receive our appointment!

    How are you feeling? Xx
