Cervical cancer

Hi after change in periods (frequency and pain) which I initially put down to menopause as 48, I went to my GP to get checked out. She examined me and took bloods which were normal and sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. Just been phoned and she said I have a couple of fibroids which would explain my symptoms but also that the scan showed a "spot" at the base of my cervix that they did not know what it was!!! She has referred me to gynae for further discussion and investigation. I was completely in shock at the time and now am panicking thinking the worse. I had a smear last year that was clear. I am also a theatre nurse in Maty/Gynae so you can imagine why my imagination is going into overload. Any one been in the same position or could offer me any advice? Don't know how long I will have to wait due to delays from covid on appointment times either.

  • Hello Nic72,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointent. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
