Awaiting Mums Diagnosis

About a month ago my mum told me she'd been having some symptoms (fluid build up in stomach, feeling full and needing to urinate frequently) and that she'd had blood tests and a scan which showed something concerning. She was referred to a Gynaecologist who said whilst her ovaries looked ok she was also concerned and sent her for a number of CT scans. A MacMillan nurse called on Monday and told her they'd seen something on the scans and wanted her to go to have some fluid drained from the site and a biopsy taken. She is awaiting a formal diagnosis about it all.

I have done what I know I shouldn't and gone to Google and from what I can see ascites when caused by cancer is often the sign of advanced cancer...does anyone have any experience of this?

It just doesn't feel real at the moment as she doesn't seem ill...and all this waiting around is so hard x

  • Welcome to the forum LKW2108 although I'm sorry about the uncertainty of your mum's situation.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of this will get back to you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed your mum doesn't have too wait much longer for a diagnosis and all goes well with the fluid draining and biopsy.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
