Potential ovarian cancer

Hi

I'm interested in finding out if anyone has been through a similar experience to my mum. She is 51 and has had intermittent bleeding every five or six days for about two months. She has lower back pain and often gets pain very low down in her abdomen. Sometimes she experiences intermittent bloating and hasn't had much of an appetite for a few weeks now. She also gets tired quite easily. However, she hasn't lost weight and doesn't seem to go to the toilet more regularly than usual.

She's had blood tests to check her hormones (in case it is the menopause) and her CA125 level. They all came back normal. The doctor examined her womb and pelvis and couldn't feel any masses or anything problematic. The swabs the doctor took also came back normal. We are now paying for a private ultrasound scan because there is such a long wait on the NHS, even for "urgent" cases.

I've been reading up on the symptoms of ovarian cancer and I know my mum has most of them. I'm wondering if anyone else had completely normal test results like this and whether it turned out to be ovarian cancer or something completely different.

Thanks.

  • Hi worried_tp1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear your mum has had this checked out and hopefully there is some reassurance from what you've heard so far. The test you have booked will of course provide further information and I hope it's not too long to wait for that. Try not to get ahead of yourself too much with assuming anything at this point.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you find out more soon,
