Itchiness under nipple/breasts

I've had trouble over the past 3 years have been back and forth the doctors numerous times regarding rash/dry skin and itchiness on underside of nipples. The first doctor I saw .mentioned something about pagets disease which is a type of cancer but didnt discuss any further and just prescribed me some steroid cream. It seems to clear up but comes back. I only use non bio and dermal shower wash now. I've been twice this year to the doctors regarding same issue. Went about a month ago and got prescribed a different cream but this time they took pictures to send off to dermatologist. I'm 25 and have never been offered a mammogram should I request one as the itchiness had come back and feels like burning inside

  • Hello Meg and welcome to the forum.

It's good you've been keeping an eye on this and that further investigations are being carried out but if you're concerned do bring this up with your doctor and see what they say.

I know you've mentioned you've seen more than one doctor so you could try getting a second opinion (depending on what the first one says about a mammogram). To find out more just click here.

I hope you're able to get some answers and peace of mind over this soon Meg.

    All the best,

  • Hello thanks for replying, I will ring the doctors on thursday as I am working tomorrow.  I will ask them if they have heard back from the dermatologist and tell them I'm still concerned. I have just ordered a bralette that is 100%cotton so hopefully that will help.

  • Hi Meg,

I could have written your post, I have been going thru the same thing since November 2017. I got a mammogram and 2 ultrasounds about 2 years ago and they were all clear but the itching still persists. I go weeks sometimes without it only to come back but mine is on my left breast only, my right breast doesn't give me any issues. I am going tomorrow to a new PCP as my old doctor thinks it's all in my head. I mentioned pagets and he cut me off completely so I have no choice but to find someone who listens. I am so scared that it's cancer and this is being going on for years. Did you ever find out what it was causing your symptoms? Hopefully tomorrow this new PCP can share some light

  • Hi hope all goes well for you. Mine is also the same I can go a while without it being itchy and then comes back. Then it feels  itchy mainly under nipple but then all over/up ans down. I've had loads of different creams over the few years it's been happening and been to doctors loads never been offered a mammogram. Last time I went they said they were going to refer me to a dermatologist and took pictures to send off but never heard anything back about that.

  • Thank you, a punch biopsy is what I feel we need. Hopefully

I will be referred to see a dermatologist. I can't take this worrying anymore

  • Maybe ask them if they would do that for you? I didn't ask about that I just thought the doctors should know what to do for the best

  • Update, so I was referred to a dermatologist and saw her on Thursday (thank god here in the states there is no waiting time) but she prescribed another cream which it does help but they all do, the problem is that it comes back right after my course is done. It's been 5 days and although the itching is controlled I can already tell is going to come back with a vengeance once the treatment is done. I gotta see her again on the 10th for a follow up and hopefully she will perform a punch biopsy and not another cream. I have had tried 5 different creams I don't know ‍♀️ what else to do...I'm desperate

is your itching in one breast or both?

  • Ah yeah sounds similar to me. They give you the creams you use them and then stop using and comes back. Mine is usually both but often one more that the other the right one
