Breast clinic referral

Hey all,

I am 33 and recently found a lump on my right breast I went to GP Thursday and she referred me to breast clinic for the 2 week referral thing.
I'm so anxious and scared. Does anyone have any info on what happens and the clinic and how long do we wait for an appointment.

thank u for any info xxx

  • Hi I know it's a worrying time , I had my appointment one week after being referred by my GP I suppose it depends on where you live. You will sit with a consultant who will go over your symptoms and family history and then have an examination. Depending on how that goes you will most likely be offered a mammogram/ultrasound if necessary and there is still further information needed they will perform a biopsy there and then. The results of the biopsy takes a further 10 days. Hope this helps and best of luck.

    HI Tashag,

You should be seen within a two week time frame after you are referred to the breast clinic. You will find the staff there very understanding and helpful. I see that Tinabul has already outlined the tests that you are likely to get, so I won't repeat them.

Not every lump is cancerous and, only 1 person in every 8 referred will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Here's hoping that nothing untoward is found.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
