Lumps on neck lymphoma worries

Hi everyone,

Really I just wanted to get my current story out there as I've been using these chats to help me cope :)

So around 10 months ago my fiancé noticed a lump on my neck just under my jaw below my ear, no bigger than a pea. I put it out of my mind and when the whole COVID situation happened I hadn't even thought about it. The past few months I was developing loss of appetite, shortness of breath, blood rushing in ear and most recently severe exhaustion. When I felt the lump on my neck had gotten bigger i decided to go ahead and go to the gp.

Here's where we found 3-4 lumps with the original lump being the most suspicious. For reference my first lump is hard and immovable. The other few I have are also hard irregular and 2 are movable. The gp sent me for a chest X-ray the next day and a heamotolgy appointment within the space of 3 days. I just want to say here everyone has been incredible and everything has happened so fast.

Hematology ordered a complete blood count and complete bloods that day (6 vials eek) I fainted after the bloods, dramatic as always. Hematology has now sent me for an urgent ultrasound scan of my neck to be done this Tuesday :)

Tonight I found another large lump now on the right side of my neck. (I have 2-3 on the left side and one under my chin) Staying positive though!

I'm only 20 and I worry for my family and fiancé more than myself.

  • Hi there

What an awful few months you've had, I can understand why you feel worried. It sounds like your gp is on the ball with it all, organising bloods, xray and scan etc. The waiting is a worrying time, but hopefully the results will be back  quickly so you can process whatever is happening. Im in a similar waiting  game with a throat problem I've had for almost 4 months now, saw ent consultant who didn't see anything concerning but ordered an mri as a precaution. I have now been called back in this Wednesday (I was being discharged if scan was clear) I am quite worried now but keeping busy as I cant change anything really but the nerves do surface at quiet times!

I wish you the best of outcomes, please keep us posted when you can.

    Sending hugs

    Christine

  • Hi Christine,

Thankyou so much for getting back making me feel a lot less alone :)

I'm so sorry you've been having problems :( and Oh gosh that must be scary to be called back but you're so right with the mindset that you can't change the outcome.

I know exactly how you feel, it's so scary because you convince yourself that it's nothing and then it creeps back onto you that it could be something. But we have to remember that for most people it really is nothing and the stress only makes us feel our symptoms worsening.

Please keep me updated I hope everything all goes well! You never know it could be a number of other things <3

    Love Megan

  • Hi Megan

Youre so right about feeling alone, I dont really share my fears with my hubby as he worries, but this group is great to vent to and speak to like minded people!

I really can't waIt till Wednesday so I can end the not knowing and deal with whatever comes. I'm older than you (59) but i can imagine being only 20 you must be feeling very worried. I hope we both get the outcome we want!

    Love Christine

  • I know that feeling, I've been with my fiancé since I was 15! So he's taking it a lot harder than he's letting us know. I think he just doesn't want me to worry.

My chest X-Ray is clear so nothing has spread there which is great but obviously there's still the fear that it could be in my neck still as my ultrasound isn't until tuesday.

I think it's amazing everything has happened for me within two weeks but also the speed of everything is scary, not a lot of time to process anything.

I hope everything is great on Wednesday and it's not anything sinister, maybe they just want some more tests from you so that you don't go away without an answer.

  • My second marriage, been together 15 years and he's the love of my life, but worries about me  which in a way is lovely i suppose? Do you have wedding plans yet?

The fact your xray is clear is great news, I hope the ultrasound is too! The 2 weeks pathway is great but as you say is a whirlwind and you dont get chance to collect your thoughts

I hope Wednesday is more tests, that I can do lol.

Good luck for Tuesday, I have everything crossed!  X

  • That's so sweet bless you I'm so happy you found eachother. Yes we're hoping to be married by mid next year, waiting for the whole corona situation to calm down,

I think the best things we can do is make sure they're okay too. It broke my heart seeing the look on his face when I came out of the doctors with my X-Ray form but he's keeping his mind off it. Don't let all this eat you away on your own :) it's such a scary time but I'm positive your husband wouldn't want you worrying alone for his sake.
Wednesday is just around the corner so not much longer till you get your answer <3

Lots of love and good luck too!

  • Just got back from the hospital and wanted to update you that he says he can't see anything scary on the ultrasound and I'm now waiting for a hematology appointment :)

  • Hi Megan

I'm so pleased the scan was ok, I've been thinking of you today! I hope haematology rules out anything scary too. Hope you are a little more at ease in your mind.

    Thankyou for the update x

    @Megan269

  • Please let me know how tomorrow goes and the best of luck to you :)

Ill let you know how things proceed I'm just so relived that it's most likely nothing too scary

    xx

  • Thankyou will do,

I have everything crossed for us both xx
