Ovarian Growth

Hi

Feel like a complete fake writing this after reading all these post but here goes. I have had bowel problems, bloating , aches etc and finally had an ultrasound on my stomach and "bits". The next morning I got a call from the docs to say that there was some sort of a cyst the size of a golf ball on one of my ovaries. He can't tell too much as it's unclear but that he had already referred me to a gynaecologist, the nurse rang even as I was on the phone to the docs to arrange a blood test ASAP, the day after.
now it's a waiting game, my mind is whirring, I am over 50 and in menopause. Hubby isn't sleeping and I'm trying to stay all positive. I know I am over reacting but....

  • Hi

I think everything you say is normal. I am 50 and have no symptoms.

Two weeks ago I went for an ultrasound and blood test. I have an 11 cm growth on my ovary. No idea what it is and this is taking me to some horrid places in my thoughts. it's the not knowing that is hard. you don't know if you need to be worried or not.

Its all a bit of a shock I went for MRI yesterday but couldn't get in the tube I feel like I'm letting my family down - my husbands struggling trying to be brave but it's really hard.

I think what I'm trying to say is you are not alone. I think its normal to go to those dark places in your mind but don't stay there for long - I'm trying to stay in the present because that's all we have.

  • Hello

Dont think that you are letting your family down, you're not at all. Everyone panics, that's a very normal reaction. I have a friend who I am texting (blkoming pandemic), I'm trying to be the usual me so joking and keeping it lighthearted- distracts me and also I'm concentrating on being in a "normal" zone.
lots of luck to you, keep strong and it seems like we have a lovely group here to offload to if we need to vent xxxx

thank you so so much for the reply. Much appreciated

  • Just waiting for the days to tick off operation 23rd Nov

    pre op 17th

  • Will be holding thumbs for you!

    xx

  • The day will soon be here.

Hope the waiting has not been too bad and surgery goes well.

    Take care stay positive.

  • So pleased to hear that people are still getting operations and treatment they need. It might be just me but I am getting a little anxious as the covid in patients rise to what operations will take place. This might just be a local thing as well.

I've had a bit of a rollercoaster since October and my diagnosis has taken a little bit longer than necessary.

I've really struggled with MRI and just had a CT scan the lowest point was being told that my blood test was lost and had been destroyed. Back to the consultant for next week.

I'm also confused about the different types of hysterectomy and what I will need. Doing my appointments on the phone is good but also makes me feel slightly anxious.

Hope everyone is doing ok and I continue to positive at this time

  • Hope the operation has gone well and you are beginning to recover in these early days post surgery.

  • I have my operation booked for the 13th of January its a bit of a wait!

However, my blood test cancer markers came back in normal range apart for my CA125 which was slightly raised. They are going to test my lump while I'm being operated on and do what is needed then.

Like so many others it's the not knowing and uncertainties that cause the most anxiety!

I have some positive friends that keep me going which is great.

I have my pre-op on the 14th of December.

    Take care everyone

  • Operation done. Very grim whole thing.

three weeks to wait for results on ovary now

  • I'm doing good - I have my surgery on the 6th of January.

Having a hysterectomy, gall bladder removed, lymph nodes and fatty tissue.

This seems a lot but I'm pretty positive and looking forward to the recovery and not focusing on the operation to much. There is so much that I do not know and there are a lot of tests to go.

But its Christmas and I'm going to enjoy Christmas with my family.

    How are you doing

  • Good to hear you have a date and it's sooner rather than later. Mine is booked for mid Feb which seems forever away, I've had a few calls from the hospital this week about scans and previous, each time I ask about cancellations to see if it can be brought forward!
I'm glad we can now try and have a normal (ish) Christmas for our girls sake!
During my meeting with the consultant last week they went through the op, they will also run tests to see if it's malignant or not whilst I'm in theatre - was quite impressed with this! Sounds a long traumatic op and to be honest is scaring the life out of me. Last time I was out to sleep I was 12yrs old to have a tooth taken out!! But it will be worth it to get this thing out of me!
Enjoy your Christmas as much as you can and good luck for the 6th Jan. Keep us updated with your progress if you can xxx

  • Thanks for the message, Yes enjoy Christmas and the time you have.

I have been focusing on the recovery and what I can do to help myself - I can't do anything about the operation just trust the surgeons to do their jobs - and I have a great team.

I am trying some relaxation techniques - and yoga. Hopefully, this will keep me calmer as we approach surgery.  I have never had an operation so there is much I don't know.

The worst for me is not being able to have visitors my husband is amazing and so supportive so that is going to be hard.

But I'm looking forward to this being over and getting on with life again.

I will message when i can as i think to know people are the other side of surgery is really important.  Take care
