Worried about high platelet count

Hi

In 2017 I was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer and had the right side removed... I do have a nodule on the left but so far its ok... I get no follow up checks apart from 6monthly bloods at docs... Due to swollen lymph nodes and night sweats I was referred to hospital to check for lymphoma, all came back fine but my bloods showed my platelet count was high and consultant wanted it repeated in 3mths... In the meantime I have been feeling unwell and suffering from headaches, palpitations with numb arm and back pain... So doctor took my bloods and checked me over, said she seemed to think all was ok and said it could be peri-menopause. But when I have checked my results online my platelet count was high again but doc never even mentioned it... Surely with my past cancer diagnosis they should be looking into it... I just don't feel right but can't explain how I feel... Just don't know what to do... Any advice sould be appreciated...

  • Hi max1969,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read that you've been feeling unwell recently and I can understand your concerns. It's only really your doctor who can advise on this, so if you've seen that the platelet count was high but it wasn't mentioned to you, you should perhaps speak to your doctor to discuss and query this. It's important that you have the full understanding of what the doctor is thinking regarding this - and at the same time you can also mention your ongoing concerns surrounding your symptoms.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
